Summary: I purposely left the timeline ambiguous so that it could fit in with pretty much anyone's idea of when it could be. This is my submission for the June/10 word prompt "Midnight Confessions"
Disclaimer: Of course, I do not own the Star Trek Universes.
A/N: A thanks to Dinah for beta reading the story. A nice, fluffy break.
T'Pol positioned herself on the floor of her room and lit a candle for meditation. Her classes had been particularly challenging this day, and she welcomed the focus and peace meditation would bring.
The glow from the candlelight slowly expanded until there was nothing but the light around her. This was her place of solitude, a private place to relax her mind and body without intrusion.
Somehow, though, she sensed she was not alone. Someone else was there with her, and although she could not see them, she felt their presence much like one would sense someone entering a room.
The presence reached out to her. She sensed that it was not an intruder and somehow knew it was someone's katra. It felt oddly familiar. Hoping to communicate with the presence, she whispered, "Who are you?"
It did not answer with words. Instead, T'Pol experienced a collection of thoughts and feelings that described an eagerness to be together as it believed they have always been and always would be. The love and vitality she sensed felt like home.
She felt it withdraw from her and T'Pol called to it, "Don't leave." It was intriguing and the emotions she received from it were undeniable. She didn't want it to leave.
It responded gently with thoughts of patience and time and finally left her with the assurance that one day they would meet. The overwhelming, foreign emotions finally took their toll and T'Pol's mind focused on suppressing them.
"One day," was its last thought before leaving her completely.
It was fairly dark in her quarters when T'Pol partially woke from her sleep. Alert just enough to be aware that her head rested on a man's chest.
Lifting her head, she scanned across the room for the chronometer and realized it was zero hundred hours. T'Pol did not want to wake fully, and she did not want to leave his arms that were wrapped around her.
Whispering in his ear, T'Pol breathed his name as Trip continued to sleep. Before returning to her sound slumber, she added what she had waited over thirty years to say to him, "I have found you... my home."
This was nice.
Okay, thanks!
Thanks again everyone for commenting. Hummingbird, I didn't want to post it to the other sites until it was here for a couple of days because it was a TriS challenge. I probably will this weekend if I have the some time.
Indefinitely soft, definitely lovely.
How beautifully you have conveyed a warm fuzzy glow.
You've left the details to our imagination, and for me this has conjured up visions of a young Trip, out on the lake in his boat on a late summer evening, gazing up at the stars and dreaming of the day he would sail among them, save the universe and fall in love with a beautful alien princess. What are the chances that two souls would connect across the vastness of space just for that brief moment?
I hope you post this on W5C or ff.net, because I would love to add this to my favorites!
Thanks all for the comments. I'm glad everyone seems to like my first stab at such a short story. Aquarius is right. Because it was so short, I wanted this to mean something different for each person, to interpret it however the person would like, the way you would a poem or a painting. For those that must know what was in my head while typing, PM me. Just be warned, sometimes what we think we know is more interesting than what is.
What a calm, pleasant feeling reading this lefyt me with to start off my day. Thanks.
I don't know who else to desribe fic as lovely, mysterious and Vulcan. The smell of desert wind. The nicest thing is our imagination can fill in the blanks. Not a word too much. The power of short fic in it's fullest. And I love the ending.
There's definitely an art to shorts - and you've done a great job with this! Someitmes less is more - and this is beautiful and evocative.
I like that this is as short as it is, actually. It says all it needs to say: basically that Trip was born for her, and perhaps a hint at reincarnation.
I love the deliberate ambiguity, the fact that this leaves us with questions as well as answers. If all those quesitons were answered for us, I think the piece would lose some of its profoundness.
Wonderful work. Thank you for participating in the challenge!
Crsytal wolf I liked this short story alot well done it's beautifully written.Trip and T'pol are Soulmates indeed.
WOW that's it? <pout> That doesn't seem quite fair, this is a tantalizing idea. I have so many questions but mainly these two... What exactly caused this sweet bout of Vulcan ESP in T'Pol's youth? Did Trip experience this also? I implore you, please consider expounding on this very intriguing and romantic premise. It's like eating one chocolate chip, nobody wants to east just one chocolate chip!
That ws a very lovely story. The thought that they had somehow met in the past through her meditations and finally in real life fits.
My hat is off to you.
