Re: Language misunderstandings

Beyond fags as cigs, I'm pretty sure faggots are meatballs in England, aren't they? Sorry but no, meatballs are definitely meatballs in the UK. Faggots are either bundles of sticks for fuel or a particularly nasty slang term for homosexual males! :) I'm afraid I have to disagree, sure the fi...

Re: I've defeated Windows 7...

I've been holding out getting a new computer just so I can skip Vista and go directly to Windows 7. I recall reading an article that a lot of the decline in computer sales can be attributed to a lot of users doing the same because of the suckiness of Vista. There's also a case of the system quality...

Re: I've defeated Windows 7...

Oh god don't remind me. I was doing some edu rebuilds down here and was told to scrap anything short of a P3/AMD 400 with 256Megs of RAM. I scrapped quite a bit. The rest went BACK into service with a clean XP build, and this was only about 3 years ago. *Shudder*. They had P1 166's with 64 Megs of R...

Re: I've defeated Windows 7...

The only problems with x64 are hardware compatibilty. Peripherals are the worst, printers, webcams etc. But if all of your devices are supported by x64 and you have a 64 bit CPU its senseless to run in 32 bit.

Re: I've defeated Windows 7...

Maybe it's something to do with USA support, as I've got corp support in the UK (as standard) which is UK based. I spoke to them yesterday about something.

Re: I've defeated Windows 7...

Depends /which/ Dell you have. The business series and their support tend to be very good. I wouldn't be so sure about the home series and its support.

Re: Randomness

So today I got proactive: I opened the computer box and got in there (carefully) with my vacuum nozzle. I made sure the fans got dusted out and everything, and there was a LOTTA cat and dog and human detritus in that machine. Then I noticed that the fan directly over the processor thingy had a sort...

Re: The Whine thread.

I bloody hate SQL.

It's usability depends all upon which set of libraries you use. Bad ones make it totally useless. I also hate Borland's ruddy datastructure. It's a pain in the backside at the best of times. Also not very fond of escaping strings. Oh well. It all works now. :happyjump:

Re: I've defeated Windows 7...

Oh and there is such a beast as XP x64. I'm sniffing at it, but I'm not encouraged by the speed that DX10/11 are moving at. I will need those at some point, and MS don't seem to want to let XP have them.

I'm using a Linksys WRT54GL, it's rock solid and very dependable, but I couldn't say if it'd work with your setup. I think mine was pretty expensive, but there are some now on amazon for about $60.
