Terra Prime's final scene

Postby Jedikatie » Tue Jun 05, 2007 4:27 pm

Here's a bit of a treat for everyone... I won an auction for an early version of the Terra Prime script (nearly 2 months ago on ebay), and I finally got the script today. This is the way that last scene was written early on...

(My script was listed as "Preliminary", 02/08/05 be, *02/09/05 pk in the upper right corner and states "First Draft - February 7, 2005" in the lower right corner, for those wondering)

CUT TO:

INT. ENTERPRISE - T'POL'S QUARTERS

T'Pol is wearing Vulcan robes. She stares out the
window at unmoving stars. The door BEEPS.

T'POL
Come in...

Trip ENTERS. He holds the IDIC. They both were in
Sickbay when Elizabeth died, and that moment of loss is
still with them.

TRIP
Phlox thought you'd...

Trip's having a hard time speaking. His eyes are red
from tears. He gives the IDIC to T'Pol.

TRIP
The captain said... the, uh...
delegates at the conference...
they've asked about the service
for... for Elizabeth...

He chokes up saying her name, recovers.

T'POL
They want to attend?

Trip nods, tries to smile, a proud parent.

TRIP
She was important...

After a few beats, Trip collects himself again.

TRIP
Phlox had something else to say.
He did more tests...

T'Pol waits.

TRIP
Turns out... it wasn't genetic.
There was a flaw in the cloning
technique...

T'Pol's Vulcan control slips as she realizes what Trip's
leading to.

T'POL
What...?

TRIP
Human DNA... Vulcan DNA... Phlox
says there's no medical reason why
they can't combine.
(beat)
We can have children... if we
want...

T'Pol processes what Trip has said, slowly realizing
that he's making a proposal...

T'POL
What do you want?

Trip takes her hand... no mystery about what he wants.

TRIP
What do you want?

T'Pol thinks, and OFF that moment of agonizing
anticipation...

CUT TO:

EXT. SPACE
Enterprise crosses from the night side of Earth, to be
caught in the flare of the rising sun...

FADE OUT.[/QUOTE]
Was this the army that invaded your country, ma'am? No, officer, they were taller than that...

How about this one? I'm not sure--get them to march up and down a bit...

That episode was the first Trek episode to actually make me cry since the end of "The Wrath of Khan"

Er. I've said this before and I'll gladly say it again: The stupid bastards should have left Terra Prime as the series finale.

Pretty much anyone who is honest will agree with you.

I'm a little torn here. I like this scene (because it basically nukes the "they weren't a real couple" nonsense, but I also like the scene as it was aired...

I like both of them, too, Rigil. And I'd be hard pressed to choose which I would rather have as the final scene to the series (had that thing never aired after Terra Prime). Both show hope for the future... this one tends to be a bit more specific about what Trip wants as his future (and may also show what T'Pol wants as well), while the one which aired is a more encompassing ending, and doesn't necessarily just apply to them personally, but to humans and Vulcans in general...

Thanks for sharing this! I prefer this one, but the scene as it aired was also good. I do like the specifics of this scene, though.

I like this ending much better for the episode (and for the series, but just a still cast photo and the sound of static would have made a better finale than *the_abomination*). It's interesting. I had always assumed that the final scene in Terra Prime was an intended nod to Spock's creation, that is, Sarek and Amanda would be the ones to combine human and Vulcan DNA and THAT child would be part of Enterprise's future.

Seeing this script, I was really off base, but in a good way.

That's how it seemed to have been intended, thanks to the geniuses who likely insisted on the change to the script so they could give us that valentine... Rolling Eyes

Jedikatie thank you for posting the ending scene from Terra prime. This would have made a wonderful ending . I also liked the scene we saw in the final episode. Both are equally good and show Trip & T'Pol wanting to be a couple. And what they wanted in the future .

In Italy, where I live, peoples say: The mommy of the idiots is always pregnant.

I like much better the way that the scene had been first written, because (how Jedikatie says) “... this one tends to be a bit more specific about what Trip wants as his future (and may also show what T'Pol wants as well)”

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

Ya know, they made quite a few changes in this script...

For example, the guy who took Trip and T'Pol's DNA samples from Enterprise was originally named "Ensign Smith" (and was called "Smitty" by Travis when he and Mal went to confront Kelby).

That launch bay scene which was between Mal and Travis where they found the sabotage to the shuttlepod? Mal wasn't in it originally, it was a scene between Travis and this Ensign Smith (that is, the guy who later became known as Ensign Masaro), where Smith is the one who shows Mayweather whose name signed off on the maintenance log for the 'pod and incidently pointed him at Kelby. Mal isn't in that scene at all in this early version of the script.

And then the scene between Smith and Archer at the turbolift is completely different... (and actually, it's a whole lot better, IMO, in this version than what we got on screen)--my apologizes for it not being a TnT scene, but I just wanted to share it...

INT. ENTERPRISE - CORRIDOR

A turbolift door opens and Archer steps out to be met by Smith suddenly smashing into him in the face with a phase-pistol, making him drop his own weapon.

Archer staggers, blood on his split lip.

Smith, a fanatical follower, aims his phase-pistol at
Archer.

ARCHER
You don't want to do this.

SMITH
I have to... You're the one who
started it all...

Then Smith's distracted by a shout behind him!

REED (O.S.)
Drop it!

In Smith's moment of inattention, Archer dives at him!

Reed, Mayweather, Hoshi, and Samuels pull up short as
Archer slams Smith against the corridor wall! They
grapple -- Archer forces Smith to drop his phase-pistol,
then drops him with a punch.

Archer stands over Smith's unconscious form as Reed and
Mayweather approach, followed by Hoshi and Samuels.
Reed kicks Smith's dropped phase-pistol out of Smith's
reach, then retrieves it.

Samuels reassesses Archer, sees the answer to his
diplomatic dilemma.

SAMUELS
Smith was right, you know.

Archer doesn't understand.

SAMUELS
You're the one who started it.
You're the one they'll listen to.

OFF ON Archer, realizing the destiny Daniels revealed to
him is catching up to him...

Then it goes on to his speech at Starfleet Command...

If someone's got an early version of Demons, I'd love to see how exactly it changed from what was on screen...

I thought you might. And it makes sense for Archer to be the one to stop him (for once), at least the way this is written.

And it doesn't end with a character we've only just met (and don't actually know enough about to care about his fate) committing suicide because he's suddenly got a guilty conscious over what he did months ago...

ETA: I love your new av, Rigil... It looks like he's got his eye on all of us and is plotting some terrible fate for us...
