Thanks, IDK how long it'll be. I've got some thinking to do.

Also, are you familiar with the world "Hellguard" from the TOS novels?

I'd be happy to help, but if I were you, I'd go with Dinah's offer. I'm looking forward to seeing what you post.

Everyone can beta read if you guys want! The more the better. I'm usually meticulous at self-editing so all I need from a beta is the usual search for plot holes, canon violations, and mischaracterizations.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with Hellguard. Along with plot holes and character issues, do you also want a check on grammar, spelling, etc.? If I can help, just PM me.

A second pair of eyes always helps.

Anyhow, I plan on using Hellguard as the planet where some shit will go down.

http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/Thieurrull

Basically this:
Hellguard is where Saavik (from Star Trek 2) came from. She's a Vulcan/Romulan hybrid and also the result of an incident where Romulans captured some Vulcan ships, manipulated their Pon Farr cycles somehow, and raped the lot of them. After the fact, the Vulcans were killed and the children were left to fend for themselves. When Spock rescued them, they were all feral.

Hi,

Question: I am totally not technical. I am writing a story in which Trip and T"Pol escape from a very advanced ship, flying away with a shuttle. This shuttle can be fully cloaked. They escape by getting under the ship and hide there, because it's the last place people would look.

But I wondered what about sensors? Wouldn't they pick up TnT were hiding under the ship? Solutions?

As far as I know, probably if they shut down all engines, use minimal life support, and rely on the bigger ship's warp field to carry them. Kinda like the Xyrillians did in "Unexpected".

Or like "Affliction" when Trip had to manual restart the engines and do a complete data purge in under a minute while Columbia carried them in their warp field.

In Terra Prime, Mayweather flew them to mars in the tail of a comet to stay hidden.

Or you could be silly and borrow a perception filter from Captain Jack Harkness. Oh wait, wrong fandom :)

If it's cloaked, doesn't that imply it's invisible to sensors?

To an extent. It depends on how smart the people looking for them are. I believe a cloaked vessile can still cause a distortion, still put out exhaust, and cannot fire while cloaked (unless it's really advanced).

I'm not super technical, but I'd be happy to be one of the beta readers.

IIRC, the Xyrillians were not detectable by sensors but because Trip noticed that the ship was not travelling as smoothly as it should. I can't remember if it was at warp or impulse, but I seem to remember that the Klingons did not detect them.

Your suggestion about hiding under the ship, has definitely been used previously. IIRC, in Distracted's Virtual Series 5 or 6 stories, a cloaked Romulan shuttle attached to the Enterprise is detected only because it creates a gap in the sensors. I believe the logic is that the sensor's filter out background data and present things that are not part of the background. The gap occurs because the cloak blocks the background data. This was not something that was normally monitored for. For whatever reason it didn't create the issue the Xyrillian ship did, possibly because the Xyrillians were not attached to the Enterprise.

Thanks everyone for your ideas. They're greatly appreciated. I hope I find some time soon to start writing again. Plenty of ideas, but I have to find time. Plus my English seems a bit rusty... but no better way then just start to type....

Are you working on Chapter 11 of World of Ice or has it hit a probable dead end?

I wish... (deep sigh). I still have ideas for World of Ice and another story I have been working on. Hopefully I can find the time to start writing them down.

So yes, I like to finish World of Ice, but I am a bit busy with work and family. However, these kinds of questions are a huge encourgement for me for start again, so thank you for asking. :)
