Fanfiction Reviews/Recommendations?

Postby Rigil Kent » Sat Dec 23, 2006 8:54 pm

Way back on TrollBBS, before I abandoned that place lo these many years back when the "moderators" stopped doing their job, a couple of us started an in-depth review of a couple of TnT based fics. I believe that we only managed to get through MissAnnThropic's opus, Cry Havoc and Zane's Differential before the threads died out (as there were like three people tops trying to keep said threads alive).

And then, we did something similar over at HoT (with boushh providing point for a while) with the Fanfiction recommendations ...

Are we going to do something like that here? I would really like to do something that actually involves the author of the recommended piece so the readers could interact with the author and perhaps get some insight into their writing process or why the author did what they did in section whatever...

Thoughts?

That sounds like a great idea! The discussions dealing with stories over at HoT were always a lot of fun...even when we were politely disagreeing.

Thats sounds great!

Do you propose a thread for each fic?

Should this have its own section on the board?

I am unsure how it was done at either of the boards you mentioned

Sounds great to me - when we start getting more fics up we'll do it. Cool

Well, I've done my reviews, but it seems like not many people are interested in discussing them. Sad

I like the idea of recommending stories it's the only way some of us get to read stories we've never heard of and introduce us to new authors.

Thing is CX, you kinda overwhelmed people IMO by posting them all at once. If you want to start a good argument, just throw out a single provocative statement and sit back. Someone will challenge you, then someone else will chime in, and soon enough you will have a nice little brouhaha going.

I like that idea Rigil. Smile

I'm figuring a thread for each fic would work. Though we shouldn't do too many at once. It might be hard for people to catch up and read along...

Discussing One story at time would be so much easier and less confusing than trying to read alot of recommended stories at once like Hot did last Summer I couldn't keep up with the reading list. Shock There were so many great stories to chose from and discuss.

I agree. One at a time... and we should give the author a heads up so they can join in the discussion.

Question is: what story is first?

Should we nominate someone to choose the stories? Make a list of volunteers like on HoT? Or just take the first suggestion that comes up?

I'd say first come, first served.

Maybe we should have non-authors recommend stories instead of it being an author submit another author thing...that way, we could get a feel about what the readers want to know about...
