Disclaimer: Not Mine
Summary: Here’s my response to JadziaKathryn’s challenge. Her words were: Ideal, Lipstick, Beat, Shine, Paper.
I’ll continue the challenge with these words: Hammer, Frankincense, Broom, Red, Throat.
(Blame my husband for “Frankincense”. I asked him for a random word and that’s what the man came up with. Honest!)

“Fold 1000 paper cranes and your wish will come true,”
Said Obaasan to me when I was small.
I tried, but English called to me before I was quite through,
Then French and Spanish held me in their thrall.
It wasn’t long before I had forgotten all about
Such childish wishful thinking in my zeal.
To learn each language that I heard became, without a doubt,
My chosen lifelong goal, my true ideal.
I spent my childhood, youth, and college years blind to the world,
While poring over tomes of dry translation,
And when at last I came to see the universe unfurled,
My fear was all that I could bear to waken.
I couldn’t see the beauty in the stars despite their shine.
My heart beat timidly within my breast.
Very soon I saw I wanted someone to be mine
But regulations had him too obsessed.
And so I began folding all the paper I could find.
It wasn’t easy. Paper’s hard to get.
My wish is simple, “Make him see me,” but he still seems blind.
His duty won’t allow him, not quite yet.
I’ll fold my paper cranes until I’ve reached one thousand strong
And then I’ll make my wish with brave intent.
In the meantime I’ll just do my job and play along.
Perhaps more lipstick and he will relent.

there was a time:
it was so beautiful it could have been a song. it made me cry a little.
"The Foo-ball" is fantastic! It's perfectly Suess-esque and just delightful.
