Summary: Something silly. Apologies to pookha hare, but the name’s just too perfect. : )
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Little Lizzie,
In a tizzy,
Can't find Pookha Hare.
Floppy, cuddly bunny friend,
Can't find him anywhere.
"Daddy, help me!
Where can he be?"
Begs the little girl.
Tucker turns the cabin 'round,
Puts it in a whirl.
"Mommy, help me!
Where can he be?"
Cries the tot again.
Mommy asks her logically.
"Where did you put your friend?"
"Well, first I got up out of bed,
And went to brush my hair.
And Pookha sat there watching me
On the seat of Daddy's chair.
And then we went to breakfast and
He watched me as I ate.
I got some syrup on his ear
When he fell in my plate.
And then I went to play with Phlox
While you and Daddy worked.
Pookha helped us clean the cage
Where all the critters lurked.
Then you came to pick me up,
And we went to the mess,
And that's when sauce and meatballs fell
All up and down my dress."
Her tiny brow wrinkled in thought,
She tugged on pointed ears,
And suddenly her face lit up,
And there were no more tears.
"I remember now!" she said.
And ran towards the hamper.
"He's just as messy as my dress,
And just a little damper.
A bath was what he had to have,
And so I put him in one,
The sink was just the perfect size,
And dunking him was such fun.
But when the suds were all rinsed off,
His left eye came off with them.
I thought the quartermaster could
Fix it like my new dress hem."
Her mother raised a brow at her
In serious approval,
And took the dripping, sodden thing
To hasten its removal.
She placed it back into the pile
Of filthy clothes and linen,
And patted Lizzie on the head
And got from her a big grin.
"Your Pookha needs a spa day,"
Mom solemnly did tell her.
"He'll feel much fresher afterwards,
And he will smell much better."
That’s how the quartermaster
Came to his new profession.
Toymaking for young Lizzie
Was his beginning lesson.
When next the ship encountered
A new and alien species.
Whose representatives came up
To speak of peaceful treaties,
A tiny girl escaped the care
Of Mom, and Dad, and Phlox
And showed the nice big bunny man
How Pookha made his hops.
And now in that same system
Where Pookha showed his charms
He has a thousand cousins held
In loving furry arms.

there was a time:
it was so beautiful it could have been a song. it made me cry a little.
"The Foo-ball" is fantastic! It's perfectly Suess-esque and just delightful.
