Re: Fancy meeting YOU here!
Dominic Keating was in this week's CSI: NY. Watch it here (sorry, I think it's US only). He is convincingly eeeeevil, if with a very strange accent. (Brit-Texan, maybe?)

Re: Randomness
Randomness: I am still alive. For the moment anyway. I meet with my adviser tomorrow and we shall see how my status is after that. And moreover, what I want my status to be after that meeting. Where's the petrified emoticon? I have come up with a simile: the last semester of grad school is like the ...

I've got some novels to read, emails to write, and DVDs to watch. We're at least not going to get as much snow because we're coastal, but it's still supposed to snow for two and a half days and then two more days of snow showers. Bah.

Mythbusters is going to be testing a Kirk scene - making a cannon in "Arena." Read about it and watch the preview here. It's on Monday night. And since I don't have cable here, if anyone watches it, would you mind PMing me with the verdict?

I am home for break! And Borders has a 40% of any DVD set coupon so I bought myself series 2 of Torchwood for Christmas. My aunt and cousin plus my cousin's cat are here, and it's organized chaos and all that good family holiday stuff happening.

A few years ago my mom decided to get a leather recliner, and it has little catches where my kitty's back claws gouged it when she jumped up. Also, pen ink is hard to get off leather. (Okay, that was me and not the cat.)

No, I don't read Swedish. I can usually recognize that a language is Scandinavian but that's about it. And if the assignment is an academic research paper, then I am doubly appalled. Whine: I got up to get a drink and when I came back my laptop is screwy. The screen will stay up at a 90 degree angle...

I think it's most common with the students who really just don't want to read anything that disagrees with their preconceived notions (Prozac is bad, Ecstasy is good...that's two different papers). They're freaked out at the concept of coping with dissenting points of view. Another alarming reflect...

Does anyone else think ek looked a bit like Mariska Hargitay in that picture? (Am jealous of the great hair, by the way!) In my family we do Christmas as a pretty relaxed family affair. The religious part is important to us too; we always read the Nativity story from the Bible before opening present...

Re: The Whine thread.
Well, I maintain that you just can't replace books. But you're right, it's so easy to get decent sources. If someone is that dead-set against using their brain, maybe college isn't the place for them. Secondly, I have to wade through microfiche (which isn't too bad) and microform (which is hideous),...
