Re: Abrams Trek review thread *HEAVY SPOILERS*
They are pointless (even if you were obviously over-simplifying the temporal mechanics involved using any given theory of time)... to anyone outside of that given timeline. Linear time is a convenient fallacy because we don't actually know what time is, yet. That's why Spock!1 more or less shrugs an...

Re: Abrams Trek review thread *HEAVY SPOILERS*
So it is linear, but you can move both ways. In the meantime, there are other paralel universes or timelines that do not cross with this one. Time is nothing but our perception of changes in our environment, which we record as a linear sequence. It's entirely possible there is no such thing as time...

Re: Abrams Trek review thread *HEAVY SPOILERS*
I'm honestly bemused and baffled by the common interpretation that the primary timeline was eradicated by the events in this movie. Even moreso by anyone who would claim that Star Trek has consistently used the single timeline expression. Between Mirror Universe episodes, Year of Hell, Twilight, Yes...

Re: Romulan history
Sorry to join the conversation late but the ridge issue is actually addressed in the trilogy, just not explicitly. Various individuals are described as having the forehead ridge or not and this being an inherited regional/clan trait. The implication is that the civil wars on Vulcan were in many ways...

Re: Diane Duane Interview
So I wish that canon would also explain the physical difference between Romulans and Vulcans. Have you read the Vulcan's Soul trilogy? Because it does just that, explains the Remans, too. It covers the journey of the Vulcan refugees following S'Task to what becomes the Romulan system in the past, w...

Re: An update on the Romulan War book for those who care
A trade paperback? So it'll be a hideously illustrated, shoddily written pair of comics with an even more hideous sounding premise based on sledgehammering the plot to match 1960's prop tech? (Based on all the other trek comics I've seen). The last thing I care about is some contrived explanation fo...

Uh, no. The Pit allows fic from pretty much any fandom. Every fandom has its voles. Having said that, though, it's highly trafficked and a great way to get your fic read.

Re: Romulan war canon?
And maybe Romulans can mind meld, but they're just untrained and have been for generations. That's how it's handled in the novels. They do have telepathic abilities, but no one was trained for ages, except sporadically within the security department and later, the tal shiar. It's often used as the ...

Re: Romulan war canon?
I noticed they say Romulans don't have Pon farr. Um, well, I just finished reading "Vulcan's Heart" and while Romulans might not have pon farr, they definitely a) recognize the symptoms and b) a character refers to some Romulan woman suffering such a condition (as he's preparing to rape S...

Re: Current Fic Sites
Any particular reason? I haven't actually been to their boards at all -- do they actually discuss things on them? I think ff.net has evolved to contain messageboards of some type, but it's primarily an auto-archiving fic site. It's basically unmoderated, but the way it is moderated allows for very ...

*nods* That's what those of us in comics fandom have called ff.net practically since its inception.

Re: Current Fic Sites
Where should I post PG-13 to R-rated drama? I would second the Pit of Voles... excuse me, I mean, Fanfiction.net. It's not the best moderated place in the world, but I post most my stuff there unless it contains sexually explicit content. If you're interested in Livejournal, there's Holodeck One an...

Current Fic Sites
*waves hello again* Been doing research for the next fic. Got side-tracked by another fic, entirely. :? Curse those Romulans! All right, I've been away from the greater trek community for long enough that I'm forced to ask, where do folks commonly post fic? Back when I was big in trek, the hotspots ...
