Would Trip ever get a tattoo?

...and if yes, what do you think would it be?

Yeah, I know, this is a little out of left field...but it's crossed my mind a couple of times in the last few days. Was wondering what other people thought?

I don't think he'd got out and get one just for the sake of getting one (because otherwise I think he, Archer, and A.G. would have gone and got one after stealing the NX-Beta), but if it was part of a cultural exchange or something, he wouldn't make a fuss.

He'd either get something meaningful or go for something completely dorky, like the MOM in a heart. I don't think he'd get something just because 'it's pretty.'

There's a fanfic completely built around TnT giving each other Vulcan tattoos. Can't remember exactly what it was. Maybe it was in a series by ShouldKnowBetter.

There is also a recurrent theme in fanfic of T'Pol leaving BITE MARKS on the poor guy and him proudly wearing his scar.

I think tattoos entirely depend on the time and culture you grow up in. My stepdaughter and her husband have quite a few of them -- hell, he's practically wallpaper. I could see Trip getting one if that's his milieu. Personally, they freak me out. I'm old.

I think it is possible Trip might already have a tattoo. And I have to agree that it'd have to be something with some sort of meaning to it, not just something he put on his body 'cause it was "pretty". I definitely don't think it would be the name of some girl either.

Yes the fanfic tradition of T'Pol giving Trip a Vulcan tattoo (embarrassing that I know this off the top of my head) started with the fic "Firebrand" by Cinoflex. It was taken up by Peter Simons in "Healing the Mind," and by Kevin in a story I can't remember the name of, and by Elessar in "Vulcan for First Date." As a result of all this, my E-squared series beginning with "Heresy" has them both wearing Vulcan tattoos and the tatoos are something of a recurring theme in that story.

In Elessar's story, Trip already had a tattoo before he got his Vulcan tattoo. Read "Vulcan for First Date" to find out what and where.

Wow, I didn't realize so many others have put thought into the subject! I'll definitely check out those fics.

The notion's been swimming around in my head as I've been writing "Body and Katra." For one thing, for my own personal tastes, I think a little bit of ink is sexy. Sometimes even a LOT of ink is sexy...if it's the right kind of ink on the right kind of guy. But then, I was a teen in the 80s and in my 20s in the 90s, so I often chased boys who also wore more makeup than I do!! :razz:

Another thing is (and I'm totally letting my inner dork out again!) I have certain music playlists I listen to while writing certain pairings, and one of the lines in one of my TnT songs is "let me show you my tattoo..." (Nothing big, I just threw in a little Southern rock to help find that Trip "headspace" as it were.) So it keeps coming up, the seed keeps getting planted.

Plus, ink is such a military kind of thing to do. I mean, I know they're explorers, but it's based on a military foundation.

So, I wondered if, maybe, Trip may end up with something Enterprise-related on his bicep...or maybe T'Pol's name in Vulcan characters over his heart...or hell, I don't know, whatever would've been cool in their century! :lol:

I think that something T'Pol related (her name, t'hyla, or whatever) in Vulcan characters would be pretty cool... You really might want to check out "The Firebrand". That story is sort of a legend when it comes to TnT fanfic...

You know, my first instinct was to run right over and read all of these, but I think I'll save it until I've decided if I'm going to incorporate it into my own fic or not. I don't wanna be too influenced by what I'll see...I'll wait until after the thing is posted and have my inferiority complex then. :lol:

If I do do it, it's about 90% certain that it's gonna be T'Pol's name, Vulcan characters, over the heart. 'Cause I'm just a big romantic sap like that.

Still, I'd like to keep hearing everyone's ideas on the subject.

Sorry, but I'm old fashioned. I'm not all that keen on tattoos. But I've sort of resigned myself to the fact that most celebrities have them now. No use pushing them off my top 10-list just because they get some ink. There wouldn't be many (Jolene included) left then. And I still love Angelina Jolie, so go figure! :roll:

Those fics nothwithstanding, as for Trip, I cannot really see him as getting a tattoo. And the only T'Pol I can see with one is Mirror T'Pol (she had a belly button ring, remember). But that's just me.

Yes. I guess you could argue an old Vulcan tradition, but I really don't see Trip being a tattoo type of guy. And that's not just because *I* am not a tattoo fan. I could see, say, Hoshi sporting an unadvertised ankle tattoo. But not Trip.
