Re: T'Pol's Un-Vulcan Like Behavior
Well, I did a story on that subject and sent it to Justripn to look over and grade so I
can get an idea if my plotting is starting to mature.
I am a bit wierd at times. People tend to forgive us old farts this becuase we are old.

Biggest one comes from Blood Fever, in which Tuvok says that Vulcan males link to their mates in order to induce the blood fever. Also there's the little fact that Saavik says "Pon Farr, Vulcan MALES must endure it every seventh year of their adult lives." Direct quote. If woman had the same make-up she would have said Vulcans not "Vulcan Males" There is an episode of VOY where the Doc gives a lecture on a gland in the Vulcan brain that is needed for reproduction. Finally, in Amok Time T'Pring wasn't in heat along with Spock, now if they had been properly bonded she would have been even if she called Kali-fee. But than I didn't say I had hard evidence did I? Most of what's written about Vulcan biology comes from books, and other non canonical sources.
things get complicated..
saavik at that moment may not have wanted to
get into female mating so she just left it out.

we do know a vulcan male can induce pon farr not just
in a vulcan female but other species as well.
while yes tpring didnt seem to be in pon farr it might have
been because she had already helped stonn through his.

one way though the year together makes sense is that it
gives a couple time to get used to each other and make the pon farr more bearable . especially if a marriage bond had resulted in the meantime.
i always wondered if perhaps spock was supposed to have gone back to vulcan at a set time and refused to do so.
that by waiting till the last moment he had broken a lot of cultural rules , caused a scandal and this is why the parents who arranged the marriage opted out of being there.
really at first it wasnt supposed to have been seven year cycle at all.
but somehow in one of the many rewrites of cloud minders the betrothal ceremony at seven got changed into every seven years.

Still wonder why when Trip offered to go along with Archer he was turned down ARcher could have said yes easily enough.
Of course the writers wanted T-Pol along.
because it was potentially dangerous.
archer even says that trip warned him there could be issues with the life support system.
tpol got on because she used regulations .
trip rather then have an arguement with archer might even had gone to tpol with the suggestion that she pull regulations to keep an eye on archer.

Re: T'Pol's Un-Vulcan Like Behavior
True that's why I called them "logical deductions" really there is so little hard evidence, about what exactly goes on. Klingons are SO much more simple. BUT when Tuvok had his Pon Farr he wasn't worried about T'Pel dying even though they were still married, he was worried about fidelity. So I doubt Vulcan women go into Plak Tau without their bonded mates. UNLESS you're poor T'Pol and those nasty Suliban get you, and a network tries to gain ratings by forcing you to writh half-naked on the floor covered in baby oil.
Archer shouldn't have gone to begin with if it was dangerous. Imagine if Trip had been talling that story? AWSOME idea! Nope I'm not doing it.

Re: T'Pol's Un-Vulcan Like Behavior
Pookah if it was too dangerous for Trip it would have been too dangerous for T-Pol. When tPol quoted regs to Archer he should have said get Trip he asked first and if anyone is in danger i would rather it be him than you.
ACtaully when she quoted regs Archer should have had her get Trip as he had asked first he just didn't quote regs at Archer.
Besides Trip was right Archer needed an Engineer along more than a scientist.
ARcher could have taken both along as they both would have come iin handy and the more the merrier.
Writers wanted t-Pol and Archer alone in that Shuttle pod.

Um it was a SCIENTIFIC mission I think they needed a Science Officer.

Re: T'Pol's Un-Vulcan Like Behavior
Archer was going out to look at some Dark matter and he wanted something to light it up. Trip made him some things to do that. Trip was right he should have come along in case they didn't work right and he could correct the problem.
T-Pol could have stayed on board and taken readings when the dark matter lit up.
Trip telling the story would have been more interesting since he was more or less a neutral observer. ARcher had an interest inmaking himself look like the obvious choice for Captain.
Trip would have given a balanced story. AJ would have looked better than Archer.
Liked the episode but always thought it didn't need Archer and t-Pol in a shuttle Pod. It could have been ARcher telling Reed during a BS session.

Re: T'Pol's Un-Vulcan Like Behavior
Still both Trip and T'Pol had valid professional reasons to do the mission, Archer didn't. He's the Captain his job is to run the ship, IF he had engineering, or a scientific background it would have made sense but he doesn't. Even Kirk had more academic qualifications than Archer.
Back on Tpoic, I believe T'pol was truly a remarkable Vulcan in that episode. But I really have to go to bed now.

That was SuperArcher. He knew everything and did everything. He knew no bounds. He just took t-Pol along because she was cute.

I suggest you check out "The Pon Farr Thread" somewhere in this section. Many alternative explanations have been discussed, and the consensus seems to be that pon farr can still be what you want it to be. The T'Pring thing especially is questionable, considering she obviously "just wasn't that into" Spock any way, to a point she straight-up told him she'd cheat on him with Stonn if he won the challenge and kept her. Not a very strong bond there at all. So this is not evidence of a woman not experiencing pon farr ever, so much as it is evidence of betrayal.

I think so.

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four
And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

Re: T'Pol's Un-Vulcan Like Behavior
I know you can make Pon Farr anything you want. I was merely pointing out some of the few "KNOWN" aspects of Vulcan Biology to base some conclusions. I thought they'd help Silverbullet.OK Now while very little of this is hard fact, there are some "logical" deductions made of Vulcan biology....

Re: T'Pol's Un-Vulcan Like Behavior
Warpgirl, Vulcan biology is a very mixed up subject. It depends on what and who you read. Or see.
In the various series it has been tossed about a great deal.
In the ST encyclopedia it is touched upon. I don't jhave the latest edition of the encyclopedia so I am not sure what changes have been made to it.
The Encyclopedia is supposed to be the last word on it or to my mind it should be.
One problem, as far as I can see, is that when ST started people were trying to make the aliens too alien and too much like Humans.
Humanoid suggests to me Bipedal quadrapeds with apendages at the end of arms that have digits. Internal organs that function in a similar manner as Humans but not necessarrily the same as humans. Hair, fur, feathers or lack of any covering.
What do we have now? Vulcans that look exactly like humans except they have Green Blood and their hearts are located in the wrong place. Andorians who are blue but otherwise look like humans, Klingons who have ridges but otherwise are very similar to humans.
Vulcans who can have Sex with humans. That means that vulcans have Sex organs that are the same as humans.
But we must believe they have a different biology and culture beliefs.
NOw I am a great believer in one creator of the universe. So I can go along with Vulcans and humans being very close in all things physical. I will give them cultural differences because of the distance between planets.
I just wish that everyoone would get together and agree on all the points that make up vulcans so we are all on the smae page when Fanfics are writen and people discuss Vuclans.
