I swear, I need to get back to writing the RU - I don't want to forget how to write the characters in their much less f-ed up form! Gotta get the sequel to FS going this summer.

I've had B&K percolating for so long, as a lot of people here have remarked. Part of that was me procrastinating--it's very intimidating, writing an epic, multi-arced fic. Writing stuff that's resolved in less than 20 pages is so much simpler. I've had to start treating each chapter like its own little story to get myself through it.

I take the Dickens-serial approach, too. Each chapter has its own contained narrative that feeds into the larger one. Plus, being able to post chapter by chapter, really allows you to get your Dickens on!

Yeah, that's basically what I've been doing. Seems to be working alright so far.

I wrote my space battle with help of my good friend the dictionary and it made sense! [Thanks to some advice I got on this thread]. I already did a friendly Archer-fic draft, planning to let T'Pol not sleep on the sofa anymore in The Captives, freaking myself out with the sequel I wrote and toyed with some ideas for the challenge story. Now I only have to write a interesting story about Travis and I have finished my list of challenges....

We started Jan. 6. From what I remember, EMU has always been that way. It's pretty consistent with all the other colleges in MI.

You know I find trying to write anything less that 20 pages impossible condencing all my imagination is so hard. Case in point my Karaoke thing I swore only 20 pages. After all it is a one-shot, yeah that's not happening.

I let my beta be the jugde if it's worth any praise. It was part of the story, so there was no escape, but I like to try something different from time to time. I always thought I never could write a story in English - but then I took a deep breath, started typing and with the help of my awesome beta's I managed to write in English. Sometimes to plunge into the water is the scariest part.

Oh, I know--you are 100% correct. Many respected authors and instructors have given the advice "write *toward* your fear," and it's sound because we never learn or grow if we stay safely within our comfort zones. So I know I'm going to have to suck it up someday and try it, too. But I respect you greatly for having been there and tried it; I'm intimidated by it.

I don't think I'm scared to write anything. What sacred me is actually putting it out there for strangers to read. Once I did that I was done being scared. I admit that there are just somethings I hate to write, like comedy. However I know in order to grow I have to do so. But I'm not afraid just frustrated.

Comedy is the one thing I wouldn't ever recommend a writer try to force. I think you either have it in you or you don't. If it's there, you can hone it, but if it isn't there, it just isn't there.

Of course, if you really enjoy laughing at comedies by other people, then there's probably something there. If you generally feel you just don't get it when other people are howling with laughter, though, what's the point? It would be like a blind person trying to paint watercolors.
