With apologies for the delay, Triaxian Silk presents panyasan's

A Harbinger fic, rated R.

Thanks, jT! 8)

I'm wondering, though, if you know what happened to the formatting? About 1/3 of the lines are slightly indented, and I know they weren't that way on the document. I never had that kind of trouble uploading my docs here before, so I'm wondering if I accidentally did something?

When I cut and pasted the story in, new line spaces were created between paragraphs. I went and removed the extra line spaces manually. I think it has something to do with that. :? Bottom line: Chapter 2 of Body and Katra is up in Decon! As is panyasan's "Lies for Breakfast" in the regular section.

Introducing a new author...

Dbear has submitted his very first fic with us, "Speech of a Lifetime" is a nice and eloquent little finale fix that we just put up in the main area :) Enjoy

I have decided to finish running the missing scenes series at fanfiction.net. They will make their way here eventually, assuming the admins want them. But if you wish to keep up as they are released, "Damage" is now up.

Since JustTripn has asked me to explain why I made this decision, it has nothing to do with her personally. I consider her a friend. However, as an English teacher and a writer I am deeply occupationally allergic to rampant bad grammar in pieces that are published at sites that claim to have any editorial standards. I believe that is a disservice to readers and also to the writers of such unedited pieces, who will lose many readers they might have otherwise gained.

I have always preferred the authorial control and stats of fanfiction.net, but I was willing to give that up and give Triaxian Silk 'first run' of my stories as long as I felt it had reasonable quality standards. This no longer appears to be the case.

In short, as an author I am voting with my feet. But as a member here, I'm more than content to hang around to read and chat, and I also recognize that the admins have the right to do whatever they want with their site.

The lack of beta reading is not exactly new. There are some terrific stories on HoT that are spoiled by miserable grammar and spelling. Even I, as a non-native speaker, usually get the difference between "your" and "you're" right, unlike in many published stories. But I wouldn't blame it on the site or the authors. It has become increasingly difficult to find people, who are willing to provide beta services. If I can't find a beta reader, I can't have my stuff beta-read. Is it fair to deny people the chance to publish their ideas, only because nobody will beta-read it?

Amen Kotik I don't think some people realize just how hard it is to find a beta, and how hard it is to stick with one. People's lives change, and all the good intentions in the world can't stop that. People lose betas and can't find new ones. And not everyone has good technical skills, it isn't for a lack of trying, but numerous factors exist that can stack the deck against a writer too.

Yep, TS is perfectly within its rights in publishing stories unedited by either betas or the admins who are posting. I just prefer, in that case, to publish my first round of a story at a place where I have more personal control and better information about my readership.

That's MY right. 8)

Well color me confused because I've seen ENT stories on ff.net which were written like this... "R U going to the mess T'Pol?" "No I gtg to my quarters."

That wouldn't happen here. Still you are perfectly correct that it is your right to post when, where, and and how you want. But I think it's a shame that so many people will be disappointed. :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
