Anyone interested in seeing excerpts from the first draft of Observer Effect? I won that script too... there's a number of changes in it as well from what was in the draft I got (which is before any revisions were made) and the final version on screen...
Was this the army that invaded your country, ma'am? No, officer, they were taller than that...

How about this one? I'm not sure--get them to march up and down a bit...

I'd like to see what they had where T'Pol was on the bridge and asked to be notified of any change in Trip's condition.

Here you go, JDK, that scene from Observer Effect, from the first draft (October 13, 2004) script...

INT. CORRIDOR - T'POL'S STATION (VPB)
On the monitor, Archer works a com control.

ARCHER'S COM VOICE
Archer to T'Pol.

T'Pol steels herself, works the com.

T'POL
T'Pol here, Captain.

INTERCUT:
INT. SICKBAY

ARCHER
I take it you've seen everything.

T'POL
I have.

ARCHER
Then you know you're in command.

T'POL
Yes, sir.

ARCHER
I'd like to think you'll stay in
command, too. Don't let Admiral
Gardner sneak in someone over your
head.

T'POL
I'll... do my best...

ARCHER
I know.
(beat)
I need to look after Trip now.
We'll talk again, before... we'll
talk again.

T'POL
Captain... if Trip becomes
conscious...

T'Pol can't finish what she wants to say -- her emotions
would be too strong.

Archer understands.

ARCHER
I'll let you know right away.
Archer out.

Archer switches off the com, then works another control.

At T'Pol's station in the corridor, the monitor showing
the scene in Sickbay shuts down. After a beat to
prepare herself, T'Pol turns away to go to the Bridge.
Was this the army that invaded your country, ma'am? No, officer, they were taller than that...

How about this one? I'm not sure--get them to march up and down a bit...

From Observer Effect script -- First draft, October 13, 2004:

INT. BRIDGE

Archer's showing his PADD to T'Pol when he hears a BEEP
from the helm, looks to Mayweather with mild concern.

ARCHER
Why are we getting a proximity
alert from a shuttlepod?

Mayweather works his board as the BEEP continues.

MAYWEATHER
It's coming in too fast, sir.

Archer works a com.

ARCHER
Enterprise to Shuttlepod One. I
know you're in a hurry, Trip...

INT. SHUTTLEPOD

Trip's blinking as if he's having trouble seeing his
board. He rubs his eyes, appears confused. Hoshi's in
the background, COUGHING.

ARCHER'S COM VOICE
...but let's go by the book for
docking.
(beat)
Trip? Acknowledge.

Trip reacts to Archer's sharp tone, peers more closely
at his board, remains confused.

INT. BRIDGE

The proximity alert BEEP turns into a collision ALARM.

MAYWEATHER
He's on a collision course.

ARCHER
Trip! Break off!
(to T'Pol)
Can you override his controls?

T'Pol works her board, can't do what Archer asks.

T'POL
They're not on autopilot.

ARCHER
(to Mayweather)
Evasive manuvers!

Mayweather works the helm.

ARCHER
Trip! Hoshi! Acknowledge!

INT. SHUTTLEPOD

Trip's frantic with frustration.

TRIP
...I can't see the controls...

ARCHER'S COM VOICE
Either break off your approach or
switch to autopilot!

Hoshi lunges forward from her passenger seat and slams
her hand on an emergency control.

HOSHI
Auotpilot engaged...

EXT. SPACE - ENTERPRISE (OPTICAL)

rotates and rises as the shuttlepod rotates and drops
beneath it, narrowly avoiding collision.

INT. BRIDGE

The collision ALARM stops, all react with relief.

T'POL
I have them.

INT. SHUTTLEPOD

Hoshi's barely able to stay upright, leaning on Trip's chairback, coughing. Trip clears his throat, shaken...

TRIP
Captain... I don't know what
happened...

INT. BRIDGE

Archer doesn't like what he's hearing.

HOSHI'S COM VOICE
...it's so dry in here...

Archer speaks to Trip and Hoshi with absolute assurance.

ARCHER
You two sit tight. We're bringing
you in. You're going to be fine.

TRIP'S COM VOICE
(weak)
...yes, sir...

ARCHER
(to T'Pol)
Tell Phlox to prep Decon.

As Archer EXITS, Reed and Mayweather exchange a subtle
look as Reed lets Mayweather know this is the start of
the crisis they've come to observe...
Was this the army that invaded your country, ma'am? No, officer, they were taller than that...

How about this one? I'm not sure--get them to march up and down a bit...

I think I liked Hoshi trying to dock the pod better.

I like this too. I have to admit, I don't remember the corresponding scene in the episode that aired. And all my seasons are loaned out right now. Shoot.

Thanks for sharing! This was a really good episode - one of the strongest in the season, IMO. I always liked the scene where T'Pol was getting emotional because Trip was dying.

I did like this bit from this version...

(Keep in mind that this is in place of the whole "Hoshi ran a floating poker game at STC and broke her company commander's arm conversation, instead in this version they're discussing Klingon opera, namely the love story of Kahless and Lukara, which I'm not going to type up because Rigil hasn't reached those episodes yet on DS9)--

TRIP
Hard to imagine Klingons being
romantic...

HOSHI
Oh, Commander... the story's so
passionate... so...
(beat)
You know what love's like...

Trip's heart is broken over T'Pol, not that he'd ever
admit it to Hoshi.

TRIP
Yeah...

Hoshi senses she's hit a sore spot and backs off.

She then goes on about some boyfriend she had that she left behind on Earth, telling him it would only be a few months, but it's been 3 years. Said boyfriend is also the reason she breaks out of decon later in the episode (no mention is made of her students in Brazil at all).

INT. BRIDGE

T'Pol and Phlox (no longer in his EV suit) grimly work
at T'Pol's station.

ARCHER'S COM VOICE
Archer to the Bridge.

T'Pol works the com.

T'POL
T'Pol here. Go ahead...

ARCHER'S COM VOICE
You'd better get down to Sickbay --

T'Pol and Phlox exchange a look -- what more has gone
wrong?

ARCHER'S COM VOICE
-- it looks like Phlox is a better
doctor than he thinks.

OFF T'Pol's and Phlox's confusion...
Was this the army that invaded your country, ma'am? No, officer, they were taller than that...

How about this one? I'm not sure--get them to march up and down a bit...

Mad Who went and put in the stupid floating poker game instead of this? It's much better. It's more like Hoshi and TnT fits in too, albeit sadly. Maybe the writers have been getting an undue amount of flax. Who changes the scripts?

Beats me who changed it, but most of the stuff involving Hoshi's dialogue was changed in the episode.

I'm guessing that they didn't want the obvious DS9 references that the whole Kahless/Lukara talk would bring to mind, especially since it deals with another couple...

Did the seller mention if these scripts originally were from the Christies auction?

I wish I had the extra cash laying around....I would have bid on something.

The preliminary scripts are ALWAYS better for TnT than the final product, why the hell is that? Pisses me off.

You guys see the script for Home? Trip and T'Pol actually kissed in the garden/courtyard thing before her mom walked up. I think I read the reason that they cut it was that they wanted it to be a big surprise to Trip when T'Les intuited that they were together. If she'd seen them kissing, as was in the original version, it wouldn't be any surprise, so that little scene where he's like "I got the impression T'Pol wasn't gonna say anything to you" and she's like "She didn't. I'm her mother" and Trip drops his head, was more important to them. How stupid.

I actually am made a little happier by this end to TP, because it tells you that everybody besides Brannon Cockgobbler Braga wanted to imply at the end of Terra Prime that they'd get together and have kids, AS THE LOGICAL CONCLUSION MANDATED! Friggin holofantasy BS finale.... Explode

What? Shock I never knew that! Does anyone have that script handy to repost? I'd love to read that scene!
