Re: Status and Support
I am writing two scenes: one with Trip and T'Pol in a Vulcan passenger ship to Vulcan (before the episode Home) and the travel takes about a week.
The other scene takes place just before Bound.
I have two questions: 1. How many months are there between the scene just before TnT arrival at Vulcan in Home and a scene just before Bound?
2. Is a week travel about the right time for travelling between Earth and Vulcan in a Vulcan passenger (space) ship?
The other scene takes place just before Bound.

Re: Status and Support
This site is great for checking dates: http://trekguide.com/enterprise4.htm (this is fourth season).
I guessed three days for travel on a Vulcan ship, but I'm sure a week is equally valid. I was assuming Vulcan ships would be faster than Enterprise at the job, and they seemed to take a week or less, judging from the way they were going to drop off T'Pol on the way to the Expanse. I have no real idea how to figure out distances on that show. Mostly ships appear to cover the vast distances among the stars at, as Rigil Kent once put it, "speed of plot."

I don't know #1 off-hand. Vulcan is 16 light years from Earth or 5840 light days. According to Memory Alpha, WF 6= 392*c and WF 7 = 656*c. Dividing 5840/656 (WF 7), Vulcan is about 9 days from Earth. I think WF 6 is more "realistic" and that would make the trip 27 days.
Re: Status and Support
As far as travel between earth and vulcan; i'd go with whatever you want. The actual instances and speeds do not coincide with any of the star trek series. The speed of plot is the best (within reason.)
"Acting Captain's starlog, February 14th, 2152." This is the middle of "Zero Hour" It is actually 2154, but T'Pol oopsied. I think it is safe to say the Enterprise gets back to earth in the third week of Feb 2154 for the beginning of "Home".
"Captain's Starlog, December 27, 2154." This is the beginning of "Bound"
I use the site http://www.chakoteya.net/Enterprise/episodes.htm. It has solid transcripts of each episode.

Yes, but sometimes those dates are buried. The other one lists them right there on the table.

Re: Status and Support
Thanks for all the links and info and for the maths concerning the travel to Vulcan. 9 days? What a great vacation for our couple.
So thanks to the link I know that Borderland takes place May, 17th. The end of Home is about two weeks (give or take a few days of travel etc) before Borderland.
So let's say Home takes place in April-May and my scene (before Home) can be set in April and
Bound takes place December, 27th - 9 months (and 8 months of angst between our favorite couple).

Re: Status and Support
I seem to recall Lieuten Keen making the same calculation for her pieces, which were primarily Reed/OC but definitely had a lot of TnT angst going on. She put them in that nether period of post-Home, pre-Bound too.
She never did finish the last one, damn it.

Re: Status and Support
I've got a sci-fi story posted on our local university's creative arts blog. A few poems, too, but most of them aren't sci-fi. I'm stoked, even though the blog gets almost no traffic, because this is the first non-Star Trek writing I've ever had posted for public consumption. It's a little nerve wracking, though, since I work at the university and I worry a bit about outing myself as a sci-fi writer. Gotta keep up appearances, y'know.
Ah, well. Who cares? If they don't like it they can lump it. And nobody reads the blog except the English grad students anyway.
If you feel like reading my story just scroll down to the bottom past the announcements.

Re: Status and Support
I used some small part of dialogue from the episode Bound in a story. So I wanted to name the writer of Bound. According to the site I used (Memory Alpha) it was Manny Coto! Is that correct?

Yup. Hence the theory about warp highways which I shamelessly ripped off, especially when you do the math and figure out that it's categorically impossible for the NX-01 to have reached the Delphic Expanse in 7 weeks from Earth at maximum warp (50 ly from Earth, moving at 125c (5x5x5) = 146 days or 20 weeks.)
I recommend this warp factor calculator for some of the calculations, but as with all things Trek, drama overwrites realism...

Which warp factor scale? Using the Cochrane scale (TOS & ENT), warp 6 should be 216c (6*6*6) and warp 7 is 343c. They really tweaked the scale in TNG ... although just looking at the Warp factor entry on Memory Alpha is enough to give someone a brain cramp.
Yeah. Go with speed of plot. It's about as accurate.
