I figured you both would find it interesting!

I certainly did with my mixed heritage that includes Apache.

Thanks! Gonna print it out for tonight's commute.

Re: Vulcan Fanfiction: Can't say I care for the DS9 trilogy - definitely not my thing, but the other stories I liked.

Sort of off topic, but not too far - I was over at Hot researching the female ponn farr thing, and I happened across the comment thread for Say Not the Struggle Naught Availeth. So I left one. I hope she checks back once in a while.

Evcake, I did not see that site, but I have bookmarked it now! I will explore it when I return form PSG, a camping event where I lifeguard at a swimming pond for a week. I am leaving tonigt - takes about a ten hour drive, and no internet at the camp.
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

Linda: Wisdom and Beauty is a good story, in parts amusing and in parts touching, but the warning of the author is well taken. I found a Solon a more fascinating character than Helen, but probably because he's the Vulcan. Very Happy Anyway, this is definitely a story with More. Vulcans.

I suppose this is old hat to others, but in my search for More. VUlcans I have discovered Sands of Vulcan. Many stories of Spock and Saavik/Sark and Amanda. I also found a Voyager-era site devoted to Vorik, whose existence I had completely forgotten. Voyager's Vulcans were lackluster, to my mind.

I'm reminded of "Stranger in a Strange Land" Laughing

Wait a minute, wait a minute, back up...you've read Stranger in a Strange Land? I didn't think anybody read the old warhorses of SF any more.

You've seen the numerous Heinlein quotes that pop up in my signature, right? Cool

And it's probably not a surprise that Starship Troopers is my all time favorite of his...

The show? It was mediocre. As with far too many shows like that, they tried to force the characters into jobs they wouldn't ever be doing. A fighter pilot is not going to be doing special forces or infantry work. It just requires a different mindset and a different skillset to be one or the other, and the sheer amount of training that would need to be expended upon a fighter pilot would automatically keep him or her away from ground operations unless the crap really hit the fan. Someone else might be able to give a more accurate number, but they spend millions of dollars training a single fighter pilot to do his/her job ... why in God's name would you risk that kind of money on a GROPO op?

Most of the shows I've seen centered around the military (this or even JAG) seem unaware that the military trains specialists, not generalists. I was mechanized infantry. I know how to drive and operate the gun on an M2 Bradley. I know how to drive an M113 APC. I know how to drive a humvee & a deuce and a half & a five ton (those last two are trucks, by the way.) I know how to react to ambush, or how to take apart and clean an M16, or how to set up the proper lanes of fire for a protected firing position. I know how to use grenades, AT-4s, claymores, and bangalores. I don't know how to drive an M1 Abrams tank, or how to fly an AH-64 Apache, or how to conduct a HALO jump, or how to kill a man using just my pinky. But if I was in Hollywoodland, I sure would. Cool

Ah ... Melrose Space... I like it for what it is. It sure as hell ain't Starship Troopers. The Roughnecks cartoon was closer to the book than this movie. Where the hell were the power suits? They weren't mobile infantry ... they were just infantry...

I kinda like it too... for what it is. I see it as a campy satire. Plus it had Dina Meyer! Drool

I just wish they hadn't called it Starship Troopers.
