YES! We have a Trip and T'Pol fanfic for every occasion! Even for the Superbowl.

Not that I'm bored. We always have a great time here in Pittsburgh leading up to yet another Superbowl WIN. *waves the terrible towel*

For almost 12 years I try to stay awake during the Superbowl, not because it's boring, but because I have to watch it in the middle of the night. Time difference, you know. And now my husband, biggest fan of the American Football ever, fan of Pittsburgh and Arizona, is down with the flu. Bad. He is still trying to watch the game.

Hey, you're a fan or not. Pittsburgh rules!!

Superbowl Challenge
Write a story somehow involving Trip, T'Pol and/or the Enterprise crew watching the superbowl back home on a subspace linkup in the mess hall. Who's playing, who wins, who's rooting for who - entirely up to you!

I abandoned an Enterprise Fic that had a passage on why American style football went out of style. If the players look like mutants now, wouldn't it make sense for the first generation of augments to play pro football? And after WWIII if people hated augments, no one would want to watch a sport that they once dominated. Pro football players would be suspected and probably killed for almost nothing.

I just read this, T'Poptarts, and I loved it! I've had a hell of a week and I needed a good giggle. Thanks for writing and sharing it, and thanks to jT for the heads-up.

Did I missed something? Trip and Kov are talking about American Football as a popular sport on Earth in
Fusion. So American Football never went out of style.
I even think that waterpolo isn't that popular in the Enterprise area. People just knew Archer liked it and talked about it to him, but that doesn't mean it's a world sport. Right now, my country is pretty good in waterpolo - the women team won a gold medal at the Olympics - but in my country waterpolo isn't that popular. Soccer, swimming, skating are the main sports - but not waterpolo. I can't imagine the sport becoming very popular in the fucture.

Yeah, I don't think I'd necessarily agree that people would totally abandon watching a sport for that reason. For one thing, people are pretty passionate about their sports, and for another, I could certainly see the football commission (or whatever the organization is that's in charge of rules, etc.--sorry I don't know the right terminology because I'm not actually a sports fan) making certain rule changes pertaining to player requirements, rules, etc., to make sure something like that didn't happen again.
I think that scenario would be something more akin to that baseball movie "A League of Their Own"--during WWII all the men were off fighting the war, so women's baseball leagues formed and people went to that because there was no men's baseball to watch, and they became quite popular. Then when the war was over and there were more men's teams again, the women's teams were quickly forgotten about. I think something similar would've happened with "augment football": people would've watched it because it was the only football on--maybe complained about it, or quit watching it on principle or whatever--but once the war was over and the augments weren't dominating anything any more, people would've been more than happy to go back to "regular guy football."

There is a beautiful opening scene in one of the episodes of Enterprise, I think "Horizon," where two people are throwing a football across a huge warehouse-like enclousure in low gravity. I LOVED that scene. Football has most definately not gone out of style.
