Linda, you're right. This topic needs it's own thread.
OK, mine claims to be mystified. He complains: "I don't get it. The guy is
just an engineer. What can be so fascinating?" LOL . . . JUST an engineer . . . as opposed to a "fascinating" newspaper journalist, I guess. Did I ever mention that my husband, the journalist, has a very healthy ego. LOL . . way too healthy. *shakes head*

Nothing wrong with "fascinating newspaper journalists"!

My husband has no idea who neither Connor Trinneer nor Trip Tucker are. If he were aware of my crush, he wouldn't get it.

My boyfriend has no problem with it since it is absolutely platonic. We actually have fun with it. I tease him about his thing for Padme/Natalie Portman and his other platonic crushes, and he teases me about Trip and the rest of these guys who don't exist/I'm never going to meet.

Jim, my husband, likes engineers or anyone mechanically minded, so he likes Trip. He would have liked to have been an architect or an aircraft designer but settled for a masters in business and a series of jobs in small companies where he could walk from the office where he worked, into the plant where things were being made. He has been legally blind since he was a small child, which I think steered his career choices away from jobs requiring a lot of visual stuff. I think he is oblivious to my crush on Trip, though.

I talk more about Soval, so he possibly might think I have a crush on the grumpy Vulcan. But I myself have called Jim "my grumpy old Vulcan" and he loves it. Especially when I ask him for techincal advice on my fics like the time I wanted to know how a macadam road was built, what it was made of, and how long it would last. After a half hour explanation I said "give me the summary, not the Vulcan discourse". He loved that comment. And at work, an accountant asked him "How fast is the speed of sound, Jim, since you usually have the answer to mechanical and scientific questions." Jim said "At what altitude?"

Ya gotta love the guy even though he does not have Trip's great looks and is oblivious to my crush on Trip.

My fiance has no idea who I'm talking about. But it's a joke between us, too. He understands the whole celebrity crush thing. If Connor Trineer weren't so far out of reach, there'd be no mystery!

My ex categorically hates any involvement I have with fandom.
The guy I've just started seeing has been involved in fandom forever, so he understands. He's not into Trek in particular, but he "gets it." And that's cool.

My ex couldn't say anything because he was so into his own thing. He did tell me that I couldn't leave him for a pair of blue eyes (his were green) and I said he couldn't leave me for an anime chick. So it wasn't a problem.

My husband Southern and an engineer. His accent's a little different than Trip's though; more Virginia mountain twang than Missouri/Alabama/Florida drawl. He's a Star Trek Enterprise fan too, and wishes he could work on the warp engines like Trip does.
So I don't have a problem, really.

Though he jokes about liking T'Pol, but liking Hoshi more. LOL!

My EX would have fallen down and died if he knew about Hoshi Sato, litterally his heart would have stopped. That's his type. Then again Trip is mine so we would have had to just accept it. It's cool.
