JUNE 2010 WORD PROMPT!

I wasn't sure if I was going to do one this month or not...it slipped my mind in April due to preparing for finals, then I forgot again in May because of not having done one in April. Participation in them has kind of tapered off any way, but I thought I'd give it one more try.

For the benefit of those who are new to the site, this is how it works: every month, I give you a prompt. Usually it's a single word, but sometimes it's a short phrase, or I'll give you an either/or choice. You write a story about Trip and/or T'Pol based on whatever that prompt inspires in your mind. Any style or genre goes, and there are no length restrictions. If it's on the shorter side and suitable for general audiences, you may post your response in this thread; otherwise, please submit it through regular channels for archival at the site, with all the pertinent information attached.

The best part: there is no expiration date. That means you can go back to any past prompt that inspires you and write something based on it.

So for the month of June, your prompt, should you choose to accept it, is...

MIDNIGHT CONFESSIONS

Now get out of here and go write something.

For Aquarius, who's prompts always are an inspiration:

Midnight confessions

Warped in cold, satin sheets
Moisture on my warm skin
I twisted and turn
Sleep doesn't come

Midnight confessions
Whispers of the night
Fueling flames of passion
Desires of love shared

Doubt that he accepts
Fear that he rejects
Ice I most become
Lies for breakfast

Night has come again
I long for strong arms
holding me in embrace
words spoken in truth

I set my feet on the cold ground
I walk toward the door
The sheets embracing me back
twist and turn, sleep doesn't come.

Thanks for the beautiful poetry. Fits well to the proposed theme.

As for what I can think about, here follows my contribution. Forgive me for the English mistakes, I didn't pass it through a beta...

MIDNIGHT CONFESSIONS
by Enerdhil

Genre: drama, angst, missing scene (from Zero Hour)

Her nightmare persisted. She wake up in the middle of the night, her body shivering, covered by her evaporating sweat. In the last days there were no opportunities for a full off-duty shift, the crew has to cope with two-three hours resting time in between their normal and extraordinary shifts. She tried to rest or to meditate in those short intervals, but usually she couldn't relax enough. Her mind barely focused on her white meditation space, but it was not the quiet, peaceful, void space necessary to her mental relaxation. And lack of correct meditation, for a Vulcan, implied in restless sleep. The bare sleep hour was insufficient for the necessary body rest. And she had that persistent, uncomfortable nightmare. She came to bed already filled with the dread of seeing the same scene, again and again. She was troubled of having a recurrent bad dream where she was always peering, like a human porn voyeur, the naked bodies of Trip and Amanda while they make love on his quarters.

She braced herself over her bunk, considering to leave the room and direct her body and mind to look for another solution on how to disable Sphere 41. But she knew that a troubled, unrest, tired mind was of no help. Earth, Vulcan and other planets will now depend on finding a solution. And she was in charge of completing it. Even if it required the destruction of Enterprise and the loss of the entire crew, she and her lover included. She needed to relax to cope with it.

“I need to relax, I need to meditate, I need sleep!” She recognized that she was unable to rest without being close to him. In the past days, starting a little before their encounter with a hundred years old Enterprise, she tried to push him away, to regain her emotional control, to be able to suppress her emotions without depending on his emotion filled mind. She was aware that she had failed into reaching that desire.

Logic implied she should take a different approach, even using her lover presence to attain emotion suppression. The simplicity of the proof arose like a mental spark. That simple thought was enough to relax part of her brain. The anguish following the nightmare bleached.

“I confess! I cannot regain my Vulcan mental control without Trip. I need him to help me!”

She decided on how to tell him about. He was upset with her since she started to push him away with the replay of the 'exploration of human sexuality' argument. “I need to tell him that I cannot cope with my emotional inability alone. Than I need him.”

She decided to do it on their next working shift, “I need to look a proper occasion to tell him, it will not be easy.” - he was also upset on her decision to destroy the sphere at any cost, including the ship. “I'll look for the appropriate moment, in the course of our job.”

Strangely, that simple reasoning was enough to relax her body and mind. She felt comfortable. In a short interval she fall asleep. It was short sleep before the next shift, but she woke up feeling she had rested. And, more important of all, her nightmare didn't come back.
