October '08 Word Prompt! :)

Okay, I know I'm a couple of days early, but humor me because the next day or two will be busy for me and I wasn't sure if I'd make it over here, so I wanted to get this posted.

Those of you who've done this before know how it works. For those who just tuned in, I give you a word, and you write a story featuring Trip and/or T'Pol inspired by that word. There are no minimums or maximums, just use as many words as needed to tell a good story. You also need not use the actual word in your piece, but the inspiration should be apparent. Post it here in this thread when you're ready.

This month, I'm giving you a choice of TWO words, in the festive Halloween spirit--HOWEVER--your story does not have to be Halloween-themed, nor does it have to be scary in nature. In fact, it'd be a big bonus if it wasn't, so extra points for thinking outside the box!

Ready? Your choice of words this month:

TRICK

--or--

TREAT

Knock yourselves out. 8)

You're quick! It's not even October yet! And I never celebrated Halloween, so I think I try something different with the words Trick and treat  Mmm... I am suddenly very much in the mood for some chocolate..

I was stuck at the mall between work and my writing group last night (which now meets at the Barnes and Noble at the mall, which drove the Borders where we used to meet out of business -- well, that and Amazon etc. etc.). I decided that instead of the usual food court crap I would treat myself to a proper meal at The Cheesecake Factory, one I think Trip would have approved: Pecan-encrusted catfish. Oh man, it was good!

Halloween is not a festivity of us, even if - imperceptibly - it goes to gain its road also here.
Anyway, I enjoy it, and - not now, because I don't can - but the next year, I would like to write something about it (Obviously involving Trip and T'Pol! )

Sorry, Linda, also a unknown for me. I celebrate St. Nicolas at the 5th of December. With present and poems to tease the one you wrote a poem for. And nobody knows you wrote it, because St. Nicolas name is written under the poem. Some people even make the present in a sort of artwork. Lots of candy and warm chocolatemilk and you have the perfect evening.

Looking forward to Samhain myself, but a nice pop-culture Halloween is fun, too.

Good one, mjimeyg! And as a writer I welcome you to the Dark Side! How does it feel to be initiated?

Eian--That just left me speechless--in a good way! I will post more coherent and thoughtful comments in the feedback section. :D

So here's a little tid bit I dreamt up while getting ready for bed.

Trip explains trick or treat

"I do not believe you."

"I'm tellin' you T'Pol, it's true!"

"You are attempting to... trick me."

"That's a hell of a word to use at the moment," Trip smiled up at her.

T'Pol continued to apply gentle pressure on his chest. "It's illogical... even for humans."

"Well, we happen to thrive on illogical ideas."

"I've noticed."

"Besides it's not that illogical. Any normal kid would want free candy." he shrugged.

"Relax your shoulders," T'Pol instructed. "No Vulcan child would-"

"Any normal human child, I mean. Come on, explain to me what's so illogical about it?"

"Even human parents would dissuade their children from dressing up in ridiculous-"

"Superman is not ridiculous!"

"-costumes and go begging door to door for-"

"It's not begging, it's tradition!"

"-extremely ridiculous amounts of candy under the threat of 'tricking' those who do not comply."

Trip sighed. "It's... just fun. That's all. And besides, the parents don't usually let 'em eat the whole thing in one sitting. My momma usually only let me eat a couple a pieces and then made me put it away for later."

"Would it not be more sensible for your parents to have acquired 'treats' through proper channels-"

"Where's the fun in that? 'sides, then you'd never get to where cool costumes."

"Running around at night with your underwear over your pants hardly seems 'cool'."

Trip sat up abruptly and stared at T'Pol. "You've read Superman?"

She arched her brow. "Of course. I've read several of Earth's pre-first contact literature that
involved interaction with alien species. I find it intriguing that the more Superman was active the more the human identity, Clark Kent, disappeared."

Trip stared at her in disbelief. Somewhere he'd lost control of the conversation. They'd gone from Halloween to Earth comics to identity crisis. And she called humans illogical.
