I have another happy story of moderation related to the rally. One of my astronomy friends, who is very conservative and very mathematical, called last night to hear about "my rally" and compare it to the Glenn Beck rally he attended. He was analyzing aerial photos of both rallies and reestimating the crowds and reported to me that both crowds had been grossly undercounted. He said the Rally to Restore Sanity probably had 350,000 people and his rally slightly more. He listened to my stories of what went on at the Rally to Restore Sanity, including my sign, and said, "Well great. That sounds really nice. It sounds like a good rally," and we both reiterated a position we held in common that issues should be decided based on the evidence. I am still feeling hopeful today. Maybe we can all move forward.

We are making horrible faces in this one, but see Abraham Lincoln behind us? He was in costume and in character, exhorting his fellow passengers to "Be Excellent to One Another" and to squeeze together to fit more on the train (this was the way home).
