Re: Rank your Treks
Both Sisko and Picard have qualitities I can respect.
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

But Captain Picard... didn't... TALK... like THIS... Every-TIME... he-became ANRGY... or Agitated!
Re: Rank your Treks
When it comes to Sisko it's not a good idea to make him angry look at happened in Emmissary he's held his own ground against Picard in that scene talking about wolf 359 and the death of his wife.the each had their own command style that works for them.
Re: Rank your Treks
Brooks' delivery of some of his lines puzzled me. As if they were blank verse...

Re: Rank your Treks
Yeah, I liked Sisko the character but Brooks as an actor I didn't care for quite so much.
Here we go:
1. VOY/ENT
2. DS9/TNG (DS9 might move up to tier 1 if I see more)
3. TOS (I've seen very little but I'm with jT a lot there)
TAS isn't even on the radar. Nor do I care if it ever is.
I can't rate the movies as a group, either. Some (II, IV, First Contact) were much better than others (V).

Re: Rank your Treks
Odd that so many put TOS so far down...
I remember when they used to do this over at the ENT forum on the TrekBBS, and most of the times it turns out the ENT fans over there ranked TOS very high (which kind of negated what a lot of TOS Nazis said about ENT elsewhere on the board).
My explanation for that was that ENT fans probably felt more "at home" in the earlier Trek time period, and both TOS and ENT are earlier.
But now you've confounded me...
As for me, I prefer the earlier time period, before the unrealistic, "evolved" utopian 24th century. TNG and VOY (the latter of which I consider TNG-lite, albeit set in the Delta quadrant) was just too squeaky clean. That's a polite way of saying I often found them boring. DS9, while set in the same time period, did show a lot of greys, which is why I like that one more.
In the remote possibility that they were ever to make a new Trek series, I hope they set it in the earlier time period, say between ENT and TOS. I'm bored stiff with the 24th century.

Backward, turn backward,
O Time in thy flight
And let me watch TOS again,
Just for tonight...

Re: Rank your Treks
Hmm. If I went by what I can respect as good storytelling:
1) DS9
2) Ent
3) TNG
4) Voy
5) TOS
And if I went by what I tend to write/watch more often for no apparent logical reason:
1) Voy
2) Ent
3) TNG
4) DS9
5) TOS
1) DS9
2) Ent
3) TNG
4) Voy
5) TOS

Writing as TrekPyro.
Re: Rank your Treks
TOS just has too much corn for me, sorry. Not to mention that it's the origin of a lot of cliches.

Re: Rank your Treks
It's like, indispensable. It's the batty old grandma that gave us trek.
But watching it like normal tv? It's not normal tv.
Watch it for it's nuggets of future genius and laugh at it for its nuggets of 60's gumdrop controls.
It's TOS. Like nothing else.
especially like nothing else on TV (before or since). and thus a bit of a rich dish at times.
