See here

I love Matt Jefferies reaction to the TNG bridge:

"Gene asked me how I liked the show, and I said that he had taken the bridge of my ship and turned it into the lobby of the Hilton. And I have just never watched any of them since. I’m lost."

Are the Hilton hotel lobbies really so beige? Oh well I have to say I liked all of the layouts of the bridges, but not really the color schemes. I agree with no purple, but they all seemed slightly drab. I like the fact that the new movie's Enterprise is very bright and shiny. Especially the chrome accents on the Helm. I'm just not sure of all the white. Meh to me it's a little institutional. I'm also intrigued by the glass but I'm not sure it's very "Trek."

So the one seven stood for the seventeenth basic ship design in the Federation, and the zero one would have been serial number one, the first bird.

The things you can still learn about Star Trek! :D

Thank you. I think we had a thread devoted to the origin of NCC 1701. Now I won't have to worry about that anymore. :)

That must have been the original intent. However, we know that the Enterprise isn't the first one of its class (the Constitution class), so it cannot be "the first bird". Also, the registry numbers of the various vessels shown, or listed, on screen, are not sequential.
