Re: R/S: Why?
For whatever it's worth, I strongly agree that the background makes it harder to read. We had this discussion when the section first was launched, but our own (now mostly absent) TPTB liked it.
Looks cool + not user-friendly = bad design.

OMG, ANOTHER new chapter! NORTH STAR Chapter 28

Re: R/S: Why?
I use the "Reader" function almost exclusively, it solves the background problem. I am sympathetic to kotik's disappointment, but it would be solved if the stats were back up. At least you know it's getting read.....
RIP Tom, I will miss you, as will many others

Re: R/S: Why?
Maybe "Reader" is an apple thing. In the URL box I get the option, if I select it I get text only and I can make it quite large. It's there for all manner of reading, newspapers, online magazines, etc.

Re: R/S: Why?
Anyone who is interested, please check out the new and improved Bridge section and tell us what you think. Tech has informed me that changes have been made.

Re: R/S: Why?
Erm
Maybe the change is too subtle for a guy to notice, but still looks like the same ol' thing to me. Even tried emptying the cache and everything, but it's still the same with the distracting background picture

Re: R/S: Why?
It looks as if the background behind the picture has been changed to black, so when the window is bigger than the picture we no longer get white text on a white background at the edges. That doesn't change the picture making it hard to read the text, but it's a step in the right direction.

Re: R/S: Why?
What Cogito said. It's very pretty, but a bad design for reading. Personally I can't read white type knocked out from black anyway -- Drogna's web site is/was like that and I just can't read there. Some of us have crappy eyes out here.
Which is fine, but whoever is stubbornly sticking to this should know it drives people over to ff.net to actually read and review.
