Dental plans

Postby TPoptarts » Sun Jun 22, 2008 3:12 am

:? I'm in desperate need of a dentist and I can't get an appointment at the free clinic. :( Specifically I probably need like gum grafting or something because I don't have any gums      so I'm trying to get me a decent *cheap* dental plan. But like obviously I don't know nothing about dental plans or insurance stuff or dentistry in general. :? (I haven't seen a dentist in years :? ) Yikes. Can anyone help me out because I really don't have a clue what I'm doing. :? :?: :dunno: These are like the cheapest I could find
http://1dental.com/
http://www.dentalplans.com/dentalplans/ ... 00home.asp (same prices for my zipcode BTW)
http://www.newdentalchoice.com/index.asp
Well and other than the fact that those plans cost less than other plans I really don't have a clue which one would be better. :? Can anyone help me figure it out... any other plans I should check out or something... help :(

Sorry, sweetie. I can't be of much help. We have no dental insurance. We just pay for everything out of pocket. That can get expensive if you need a lot of work done, though. Have you tried calling around to see if any dentists will do the work you need now and then work with you to pay a few dollars a week on your bill? That might actually be cheaper than insurance premiums since there's no middle man.

Call around?? :? :? I don't even know any dentists and maybe I need like a specialist or whatever and I really don't have a clue what I'm supposed to do. :( And I probably do need a lot of work done hell I don't even know WHAT I need done, like I said I haven't seen a dentist in years I probably have like a million cavities by now        AND no gums. :(

Gah I so miss my old health/dental insurance where I paid ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for pretty much everything (well except for the braces. That was out of pocket. But who needs braces again :? )

If you really need gum work that's probably going to be a periodontist, not a dentist -- and that probably isn't covered too well by most dental plans. But you'll need the dentist first. If you don't get your teeth cleaned regularly, you WILL get gum issues developing, but maybe a few cleanings will be enough for you. I had a lot of erosion after a couple of years when I didn't go to the dentist either, but it stabilized. A cleaning isn't that expensive. It's cheaper than going to a Vegas Star Trek con, anyway.

See if there are any dental schools (or whatever the equivalent for periodontists is) in your area. They are often a way to get low-cost or free treatment.

And make sure you're flossing daily! And don't brush too hard. And use a soft brush... And you might want to use one of those sensitive teeth toothpastes for a couple of weeks before you go in.
