Happy "Befana"

Postby Asso » Tue Jan 05, 2010 2:24 pm

Do you remember that?

http://triaxiansilk.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=486&hilit=befana

This feast is tomorrow, and so I want to wish a "Happy befana" to everyone,
Obviously from Trip and T'Pol also.
And, considering that the "Befana" looks as a witch (Mh... does Halloween have anything to do with all that?)...

HAPPY BEFANA TO EVERYONE!

Happy Befana, Asso! :D

You know that in Spain we have the Three Wise Men, laden with gifts. Yeah, I know, how sad is it to wait until January 6th to receive the gifts? But I hope it's worths it. Actually, I don't think so, I left big clues about what I wanted, but my family is incredibly dense in those things. Maybe I have to resume writing letters for the Three Wise Men like when I was a child :D

I like the idea of that holiday and did not hear about it before.
"Happy befana!" to all lovers of the merry holidays! :happyjump:

Asso, do you have the fairy tale about bathing in the boiling water or milk what make the good ones more beautiful and kill villains?
http://www.mariinsky.ru/en/playbill/rep ... out/horse/
It origins from the fairy tale "The Humpbacked Horse (konyok-gorbunok)" by Pyotr Pavlovich Yershov:

I hope that you meant something of this kind in your picture. ;-)

Epiphany is a public holiday here in Sweden, where we just call it Thirteen Day Christmas ("trettondag jul"), so I'm not working today - Thirteen Day Evening - or tomorrow. Yay for my sort of extended Christmas/New Year vacation (I did work yesterday)!

And Happy Befana! :-p
She's got an awfully nice bum!

You know tomorrow is Epiphany, a Christian feast intended to celebrate the "shining forth" or revelation of God to mankind in human form, in the person of Jesus.
In Rome, ( blending the sacred and the profane, how it often happens) "Epiphania" was transformed into Befana, the great fair held at that season, when sigillaria of terracotta or baked pastry were sold.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Befana
Well, in Italy we say this feast is the true feast of women.
Obviously, we are joking, considering that Befana appears as a HAG!
Distracted wrote: What a truly interesting combination of Christian and pagan symbolism.

I suppose this celebration is somewhat the same origin as our Maslenitsa and they both are rather like and very cheerful:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslenitsa
Only our believers celebrate Christmas January 7 and Maslenitsa comes much later Befana.

Have much joy!

The Befana day is ending (and with it all the feasts :) ).

So I thought a cheerful video could be well accepted.

It's called: Who are you calling "Befana"? (if you watch it, you can understand the why ;-) ).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Nstn5JeHaU

Please, listen to the song (Gianni Morandi, for people who know him)
I tryed to do a translation.

Trullalà.
Trullalà.
Trullalà
The Befana comes at night
With the shoes wholly broken,
With the stocking hanging by the neck,
With the coal, with the iron and the brass.
On the broom so as to fly.
She comes from the sea.
She comes from the sea.
And the snow will go down
On the deserts of the Maharajah,
From the Alaska to the Canada.
And she will have to depart
And, singing, she will depart.
She will dress like a Ciociara (woman from Ciociaria, region in Southern Italy - like a countrywoman, and not at all elegant)
With the sac she will arrive,
She will win the blizzard,
And ,singing Trullalà ,
The Befana will come.
Trullalà.
Trullalà.
Trullalà.
A child,
As big as a little mouse,
Slipped into the fireplace,
To watch her closely.
When the Befana arrives,
Without teeth,
She jumps, dances, drinks wine.
Then, she leaves covertly,
With the night glued to the gown.
And a warm wind will blow
On the deserts of the Maharajah,
From the Alaska to the Canada.
Only one star will shine
and she will have to follow her
To fly toward North,
And the road is long, but
She will win the blizzard,
And ,singing Trullalà ,
the Befana gets away.
And, singing Trullalà,
Trullalero Trullalà,
Trullalè
Trullalà
Trullalà...

Of course not. I got a perfume because I asked for it, that's the level of subtlety my family understands

 I had a cell phone too. I was about to buy one myself this Monday, so it's a luck I didn't or I would have ruined my sister's gift. My sister and I aced with the gift we gave to our father though: 42 All Time Classics for the DS Nintendo. He's totally obssessed

It was indeed interesting vid with few shots provoked the light envy  , though the melody is not for my liking.
And I noted there the original picture from your first post. Your version is somewhat better. 8)
I am glad that you have such cheerful holidays. :happyjump:

I must catch up your last 4 stories, but it is 250 pages in my Word file. As a result I am going on with looking for your new challenge's story. I hope you'll implement it with "crafty" phrases. ;-) Do you know when you will be ready for posting it?

I don't know, soon I hope, but I'm still working on the following of my previous stories and - damn and damn and damn again! :banghead: - I'm in the habit to have a lot of ideas, too, which distract me from being "neat". :censored:
Oh, but, my dear... you know... one of the most liked thing for the "narcissist" that I am is to have some returns from someone who was so gentle to read my stories.
Really couldn't you say to me anything about them?

I have a habit to review only new for me stories and only if I am reading them not too late after their posting.
As a gift on Befana ;-) I say you that I loved your stories full of the joys of spring, your themes, the mood, your original characters (I remember your maitre d' quite vividly) but your stories had (I stopped to read them in the June when I started to leave comments and reviewing for me is a long process so far) a slightly alien for me execution. I love to read many details and many layers in one sentence (or in many ones as did Marsel Proust; it has been difficult to understand his eluding meaning in every three pages with one result with so many perceptions but I tremendously enjoyed this process). You had many sentences perfectly, vividly and beautifully conveying some ideas and feelings but it has a strong resemblance of Italian comedic opera. And I prefer more specific language of "Karmen" or "Tosca" though I do love the happy ending much more.

It is my loss, I know. :( But I am really looking forward to catching up, starting with new smaller (I suppose) future story. I have a file where I register the stories which I wish to read later. And you did be able to awake my interest in your vision of the mechanics of the bond.
Happy writing, Asso! :happyjump:
