Sorry, not seeing that. TOS was optimistic in a Kennedy-esque fashion. This was before the "hippie" mentality took over. Kirk & Co. weren't this perfect evolved people. Kirk even said himself that he needed his "darker" side and that humans weren't perfect but that they could strive to continuously suppress violent tendencies. In fact Kirk rebelled at notions of perfect societies (like Vaal, Eminiar VII and countless ruling computers), since he deemed them against nature.

So they did. I meant that TOS reflected its time. I think Leary first said "Tune in, turn on and drop out" round about the time TOS debuted . It wasn't so much who had the hippie mentality. Anyway, the last scene:
