Heck, I'm just impressed that you can SKATE. Hockey!? You're a wild woman!!!! You go, girl. I didn't even know adult women played hockey. With checking and everything?

I haven't really watched hockey since the days of Bobby Orr, but I'd watch a game if you were in it.

Hockey is INTENSE! My Canadian family has some wicked stories. And I met the NY Islanders years and years ago during a prolonged hospital stay. All of them VERY VERY good looking men. I was about 14 and my sister and I were ENTHRALLED. And we didn't even like sports then. Now that she's married to said Canadian and does fantasy hockey she kicks herself for chucking all the autographs. I like to watch hockey in cinima form, on televison shows like Bones, or movies. But JT Rocks because hockey takes guts.

Oh dear . . . I thought you guys knew that. We had a skating thread long ago, lol . . . Several of us skated: Emberchyld, me, someone else. I'm not very good. I played recreationally at Calvin College, which is in Michigan. Most of the teams were made up of Canadian Calvin students. 20% of the student body was Canadian. Our team was all Americans and we sucked, BUT it was SO MUCH FUN. We'd wake up at midnight and drive to the games, which were like 1:00 in the morning, when ice time is cheap. Subsequent to that, I played roller blade hockey and ice hockey with my own kids and the neighbor kids, as the kids were growing up. Like pick up games at the park and at a hockey rink. Once when Jeremy was in elementary school he bragged that all the best athletes were black. His friends said, "Yeah, what about Hockey?" Jeremy told them, "Hockey's a girl's sports." LOL . . .

Oh, I do have a related picture on photobucket. I'm rollorblading at a skate park at our timeshare. This must be 5 years ago:

I don't know how much I will be able to do, but I'm starting with ice hockey lessons for women. It begins tomorrow. *crosses fingers* It that goes well, there are many opportunities to play recreationally. Hockey is big in Pittsburgh, and yes, some women my age and older do play.
I'm donating my body to science fiction.

Well that explains a lot. My advice, going by what the NY Islanders told me... 1. Drink water, 2. Make sure you have someone who can give you a massage, 3. Have a chiropracter. But I'm sure you'll do great, hopefully they aren't as agressive as the boys hopped up on their testosterone kick. Because Hockey like Football is all about slamming some poor grunt into the ice. Again according to the NY Islanders. ;-)

I have a hockey-playing student who recently got very zen in his essay about the 'flow' of skating and the sheer joy of pounding your way through a game. I hope you find it very satisfying.

I used to skate at UNH for fun, but I was soooo bad at it. Always stayed near the edge of the rink in case I lost my balance. (I'm someone who once broke four fingers just because I was walking downhill too fast...) Ice skating is not something I ever did as a kid in Florida, though we did roller skate a lot. On those old fashioned, slow roller skates, on wooden rinks and the neighborhood sidewalks. Today's roller skates are too terrifyingly fast for me. Probably just as well, given my general level of coordination. 8)

I've done roller blading as a very young child, I wasn't any good I mean CP and all. But my sister loves skating, she loves skating in Canada, and she's pretty good. She probably would play Hockey if her hubby wasn't paranoid about her safety. Which is a good thing, team sports are not her forte. And she's afraid of anything coming to her at any velocity.

Do you know? Rarely I have seen an image like this one. Very, very delightful. :)
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

That's cool you are so athletic,JT. Didn't you have a photo up here a while back doing a sommersault off a diving board? My best skating days were on double runner ice skates as a small child.

Well, as of 3pm today it's confirmed: for the first time in my life, I'm a straight A student.

Very cool, Aquarius! :happyjump: I know the feeling. On reviewing my resume I realized that each diploma, degree, or certification I got the grade point average kept going up over the years until I finally got a 4.0. That is part of the reason I have such a positive attitude about older returning students.
