Yeah, y'know different coloured security features to counteract forgery, etc....pretty lame. It makes way more sense to print your $5 bill in the exact same colour as your $100 bill.

We want whatever we can't have.

So in, say, an African country where everyone is hungry and scrawny, fat women are considered beautifully healthy and nourished.

In, say, US or Canada or UK everyone's got six Starbucks drivethrus and six McDonald's drivethrus all vying to take their attention away from the Wendy's drivethru and the Burger King drivethru and the liquor store drivethru. Then add 6 lifetimes of potential tv viewing options every night and, finally, a comfy couch for slouching. And everyone seems to have, um, some trouble, y'know...not ballooning. No one's skinny. There's just too many couches for anyone to be skinny, except rare genetic freaks.

So we hold up these magical humans like Jolene and Flavia de Oliveira who somehow *SOMEhow* have managed to resist the evil triumverate combination of drivethrus, tv, and couches.

And we worship them. Welcome to 2008. It's a strange place to visit.

I just have to add, that its not only the Over abundance of food, an couches. But its well the serious decline in physicaly demanding/related jobs that people are taking up.

The more people sittin on their arses all day in front of computers, or answering phones, or what ever Lazy ass job you can think of, The more over weight the free world's population will more then likely be.

8) Cause beleave me, If you work hard enough physicaly you'll just bout burn through anything you eat. Assumin you eat more then just Oreos all the time.

An if you have a Hard enough job, you wont have all that extra time to sit round stuffing yer face. :? I know in the Summer their are days where the only Meal I get in a Day is Dinner. Pluss maybe a snack.

It's a myth that people in poorer countries admire fat people. I know, I was in Thailand. I was like 21. Looking about like I do now, I was considered fat, which was bad. Add to that that there is no taboo in Thailand against warning people (in a friendly way) that they are on the heavy side. (In fact there are no nice euphumisms like "on the heavy side.") So the older women at the market or beauty parlor for instance would warn me: "You were pretty when you got here. Now you are fat. If you are fat, you're not going to find a boyfriend."

To which I would say, "Thank you, but please don't say that."

To which they'd respond, "But I'm only telling you this for your own good. Because I like you!" :)

*SIGH*!

There was no way to get around the friendly advice! Thai people are VERY friendly.

We must not hide the truth.
I was obese, long ago (well, now I don't be exactly a twig!), and life wasn't good.
Beauty (and the living well) have their canons!
And their necessities!
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

Certainly not every country does, but some do, that's all I meant.

Don't you love it when you run into peeps who love to tell you harsh things 4 your own good. :guffaw: In Canada this is a HUGE no-no. HUGE. We're all tightass. My friend's mom is from South America and very traditional. She is always sitting you down and saying horribly uncomfortable things for "your own good".

For HER own good, I'd like to tell her she's being rude.

(But I'm Canadian, so I can't.) :guffaw:

Her daughter usually gets the brunt of it all of course. And sometimes the mom sees me without the daughter (I recently did a PC party at her house). And she likes to grip my arm intimately, and pull me aside and ask me things about the daughter. "Yenny-fer. You tell me. Isobel...is she...is she...the lessbian?" (Say 'lesbian' all soft and emphatic and horrified when you read it aloud.)

The daughter doesn't date much.

Not all Southern Americans are like your mom's friend. Around here the only one who would tell you something for your own good is your mom, and probably your sisters. We're all tightassy, too.

Tell her, for her own good, that she's probably destroyed her daughter's self esteem to the extent that certain relationships are going to be very difficult. Say "when she gets away from you, she'll probably be fine." Then smile sweetly.

How about: "No, but she's not a slut either. She is a little bit picky, and doesn't jump on every drooling loser than wanders by, that's all."

Maybe the poor girl has a brain. Let's have a show of hands. How many people here have known the grim experience of going out on a date with an airhead? Someone who just barely has sense enough to keep up with lowbrow mainstream culture, and couldn't name one of the classics to save themselves from death by slow torture? You know, the type that starts every sentence with "You know"... or..."And like".."

Argh.
"When the legends die, the dreams end. When the dreams end, there is no more greatness."
--Tecumseh
"It is better to be a live jackal than a dead lion."
--King Solomon the Wise
"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." Unless the few are armed.

But if it doesn't, what happens at the end?
Why did the bang happen at all, if there was no purpose to it?

Maybe we'll get some answers to Blue's question.
