Going to my novel workshop tonight where the participants critique each other's novel synopsis and first chapter. We have critiqued ten people already and tonight do the last two. I am one of the last two because I couldn't put it off any longer, this is the last night of the class. I am trying for a mainstrean novel, no ST, not even any sci fi in it, so I am out of my element so to speak. I wouldn't say that the people already critiqued were crushed by their peer's opinions, but every person had something they didn't like to hear. :( Did my own share of participating in this, so I guess it is only fair that I hear it too. Sigh, so I am off to take it like a :vulcan: and hope I don't come away like this :banghead: Well, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? :? There is a saying which might apply here "don't give up your day job".

Eh, don't feel bad. Very few are the published novelists who can afford to give up their day jobs either.

Not watching, but wishing I could: Time Trax. I remember catching a couple episodes when it was on... and for some reason I've been thinking about this show lately and I really wanna watch it, but unfortunately unlike Captain Planet I can't find any torrents and it's not like online anywhere either :(

I'm awake...and I shouldn't be. I'm sick. This is a weird illness, it keeps me from sleeping even when I drop unisom. John needs his sleep. I slept like 2 hrs. Second day in a row. Need.Sleep. Having OCS flashbacks.

Wow, Elessar, being sick sucks, especially when you can't sleep! :( I hope you get over this soon and get a full night of sleep.

Well, I got through my novel critique! They LIKED some things about it. And the things they didn't like, well, I could see why and will think about changing. Hey, I am surprised that I didn't see those things myself. This was a very worthwhile class! 8) A couple of the people in it invited me to join their writer's group. I don't know if I could find the time to do that but it felt good to be wanted! :D

That's good news, Linda!

If you can find the time, I strongly urge you to join their group. Networking is one of the most important things when you're on the road to getting published. The more people you know who are in the same boat as you, the more chances you'll have to call in a favor if one of them gets published/finds an agent/etc.

Having a regular group provides you with a very useful deadline for getting writing done.

I should know, I haven't gone to my group in weeks and I also haven't written anything non-Trek in weeks. :(

It's also simply really useful to read your stuff out loud, if your group does that. They'll notice things, but so will you, just by doing that.

It's an honor to be invited into a group. If you want to get that novel finished, you should do it. Besides, usually these groups include fun people of like mind. And if not, you can just stop going.

Thinking about: Vulcan robes. My sewing skills are not great, but should be equal to the challenge.

You know, speaking of costumes, and remembering Distracted's homemade phaser rifle...would anyone out there be interested in a (free) defunct hairdryer from the sixties that already looks like a ray gun? It's called Presto Mini.

It's flavored with passionfruit
an appropriate ingredient, don't you think?

Thanks, Aquarius and Alelou! I do like the people in that writing group, so I probably will try to make time for it.

That ray gun sounds great, Evcake, but you know how us Vulcans dislike weapons. I wonder if Elessar...would like another addition to his family?

Here's how I made flowing trek robes: (maybe not formal enough though maybe to be Vulcan...I was a bajoran)

a little ms-paint action here, anyhow, you get a rectangle almost twice as long as you are tall and hem it round the edges and cut a head size hole in the middle. You stitch it together down each side and voila: flowing robes.

I also know how to make scones. What a good girl am I.

How ya gonna do yers?

I'm procrastinating... I should be working on my design for a rather big house, but I have designers block right now. Besides, my neck, left shoulder and back have been hurting since Monday, so I just don't feel like drawing much.

We have a tour to Guayabo on Tuesday and we leave at 5am... Anyone remember the fic KRN wrote a while back about TnT visiting there?

....trying to get myself motivated to go back to work tomorrow. A couple of days after I was involved in a car accident, I started to have problems with my back, shoulders and neck. Now after two weeks, the doctor have cleared me good enough to go back to work - I still have some neck problems - because my neck is okay again and the pain will pass (hopefully soon!). Well, I will start very slowly...
To cheer me up, I going gaze through the TRIS archive.
