That's where you have to follow your early instincts and WITHDRAW while you still can without screwing up your GPA. Otherwise, I'd say faking out the creep and getting the grade you need is really your best revenge. Although I think the classmates who turned their papers into the Board were taking a rather inspiring creative approach too.

I was too idealistic I honestly thought it would get better. Learned my lesson, I was 17 and thought that teachers were inherently wonderful.

And panyasan? I rock as a prof! Image And I use a ton of Trek-talk in me lectures. Image I simply cannot help myself. Image

Of course you do! I totally understand. The things you can explain with a couple of Trek-episodes. I mean, talk about the history of exploration and discovery between 1600 until 1800 and compares this with ENT!

Image Remember last year when I gave Trek answers extra-credit on one of my exams? The role of capitalism in pre-industrial Early Modern Europe. Bonus points awarded for any tester who can bring Star Trek into their answer and have it make sense. Aye. Good times. Image I do that kind of thing a bunch!

I got you beat on that one!

I wrote "Your Mom 'n Me - Part II" for a Philosophy semester term paper for "The Meaning of Life". After writing the story itself (which after storyboarding, I actually wrote in 4 days), I wrote a character analysis on everybody and how the discussions we had in class, different philosophical ideas (stoicism, nihilism, christianity, etc) related to whether they had meaningful lives. Malcolm's was the most interesting... the hero who gets no credit... is his sacrifice still meaningful?

Aye. I'd read that analysis. You should post it!

Well honestly just by reading both of you guys, anyone can tell you're both brilliant. And you both give me an inferiority complex. Off the top of my head, Elasser Malcolm's sacrifice will always have meaning if he himself believes it has meaning. Outside recogonition would be unimportant to him. HOWEVER, if you don't let him live out retirement happy with Hoshi, I will eat your bones! <growls menecingly>

Eian (passing moment of idiocy deleted)do you teach an online class? You seem like a professor I can have a lot of fun with. :D

I don't mind if you use my GIVEN name, WarpGirl, as long as you realize any "Christian" connotation you feel like applying to it is a product of your background, philosophies, and viewpoints.

And, no. I don't teach any online classes.

Oops I didn't mean anything by it. Honest, given name, christian name, I meant it in the same way. I didn't mean to apply ANY standards to you. How can I do that I don't KNOW you. :o

Sure. No offense taken really. I can understand the mistake. However, Christian and "given" are not the same thing. If I'm not mistaken, a comment was made to thecursor in another thread about being careful with "religious"-type comments. That applies just as much to the non-Christians, too. And before you jump in to say, "That's not how I meant it," I'd like to say "That doesn't matter." Because that's how it was "perceived," especially given that most everyone on the forum is aware of your religious practices.

I really doubt you'd say "I hope you don't mind me using your Jewish name" to someone who's screen name is Ezechiel.

You don't know me either, actually it's impossible to truely know anyone on a message board unless you have a physical friend who is on as well. And just for the record I would have asked, do you prefer the hebrew pronunciation and spelling or the english? Anyhow I apologize for the misconception, I was merely trying to be polite.

IIRC, the "Christian" name is the one given at baptism, especially for native peoples who were converted by missionary types.

Anywho, I hope there's not too much butthurt over this. It's a pretty common old saying, and the reason I listed above is pretty much why it's "old", since not even all Christian denominations are like that, and a lot of people aren't Christian to begin with.

I'm an idiot! I freely admit this, and I should know better because my religion DOES NOT do that. :duh: Can I get a free pass for it being 900 degrees?

Everyone puts their foot in their mouth at some point or other. ;) I doubt he's mad at you so much as just pointing out the misconception anyway. No need to beat yourself up over it or anything. :dunno:
