Nuh uh, it was a person I picked up and it was a real person that talks about stuff. I hang up on telemarketers :? :dunno: :?: (and also save their numbers on my "wrong number" list so that next time I won't pick up. And they're all local numbers :? :dunno: )

Weird :?

yeah this is a pretty crazy ass story. Hey you know what it made me think of? And I continued to think this more and more as more details came out.

Ya know how in horror/terror/sci-fi thriller movies (kind of like Terminator, actually) when some cyborg from the future or supernatural creatuer or something goes on a rampage and kills 20 people, the media and/or police always end up making up some crazy story about a mass murderer with weird motives and crazy fire power who was seemingly unstoppable? It's just funny, think about it... A guy walks into a home in a santa claus outfit, shoots up the place, douses the place in a home made flamethrower with racecar fuel as accelerant... it ignites and burns his arms, then he goes somewhere and shoots himself. It's even complete with a suicide so there's no evidence! Oh and it just so happened to melt the santa claus suit to his body, so, if the body looks funky in the morgue (like, I don't know, an alien! Or a demon santa from Mars! Or a Terminator!) it's just because of the plastic and nylon melted to his flesh ;)

But it IS kinda weird. I mean who builds a home made jet fuel power washer just to burn down a house? You think maybe he wanted to spray everyone with it? That'd be pretty sadistic. Because to just burn the house down, a 5 gallon jug of gasoline in the trunk of your car after everyone is dead would get the job done a lot safer and easier.

Not to mention that assuming he got away and intended to remain anonymous (which was impossible, duh, because the family identifed him) but even if he could, why use something like... racecar fuel... which... is probably pretty easy to trace? I bet ONE guy in a 50 mile radius of that city placed an online order for racecar fuel in the last week . Gasoline on the other hand, who doesn't buy that on a daily basis? Criminals are so stupid.

Here's a space-related sample:

"The scientific community is elated by NASA's announcement that the Phoenix lander has detected ice on Mars. The elation turns to concern when, several hours later, the lander detects a Zamboni machine."

Those words come from Farscape. Watch Farscape! It's (heresy) almost as good as Enterprise. :? I had been buying the DVDs, which is hard, because they come in sets of like 8 episodes spread over 4 seasons, with key sets totally unavailable. I was complaining about this to Elessar, asking him to tell me the ending of a horrible cliffhanger, when he showed me this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KY ... 096&sr=1-1

You can watch any episode, legally!, for $1.99!!!!

Warning: This series has the stupidest pilot episode of all time. It looks like it was homemade or something. But after the first episode, it gets GOOD!!!!
I'm donating my body to science fiction.

Ah. I'm more used to Battlestar Galactica, where everything's "frak this" and "frak that." ;)

So Farscape has "frell", and Battlestar Galactica has "frak"... Now what would Trek, or at least ENT (before the Great Evolving of Humanity), have? :?

The standard f-bomb, I'm afraid! Kind of makes sense since they're not that far removed from us.

Generally speaking, I wish more writers (pro and otherwise) would follow Orson Scott Card's advice against made-up euphemisms. "Frak" is one of the few that don't completely bug me; for the most part though, they just sound silly to me when I encounter them, especially the ones in the Star Wars novels.

Firefly just switched to Chinese for cussing. I found it a little annoying when the DVD subtitle would say "speaking Chinese". You had to wonder about a culture where most conversation is conducted in English except that the cussing and complaining is in Chinese... I mean, what's the deal with that?? If I were Chinese I think I might be offended.
