We went to the vet today. The turtle is a girl. She is also a common snapping turtle which means that where I was holding her she could reach my hands with her mouth! She needs a round of antibiotics and then has to be sedated so her shell can be glued back together. The vet said this would take about three weeks. He's only going to charge us $300 but everyone in this hemisphere should still put in some ear plugs when I tell my husband.

...doing? Anything to fight my nerves about my final presentation in design workshop tomorrow. Mainly, just distracting myself by reading Catwoman-Cattales, because I am very much of a geek.

I went to Cracker Barrel for dinner recently and in the store near the register they had a whole bunch of 4" Bluesband Hohner International harmonicas for a few bucks. I bought one - for research purposes, naturally.

The instructions are in rhyme: "See that the numbers are on top facing you/The music holes now are in very good view./Holes 4-5-6-7 you will see/play the notes of the song or the melody." It goes on like that for the whole instruction sheet (fun and kind of cheesy at the same time) and explains how to play a complete scale and chords. There's a version of "When the Saints Go Marchin' In" to play.

It's pretty easy to play the notes but I'm still struggling to play a single note and the chords at the same time. You have to use a technique called "tonguing" and .... well, y'all already know where I'm going with this, don't you?

Let me just say T'Pol must be a happy, happy woman if Trip has the skill to play anything with chords on a larger version of this.

...is attempting to pack for my new job, the details for which I'm still rather unclear on, other than it involves me in a truck at some point, with no idea if there's a dress code/uniform, let alone anything else... and being rather distracted by ST fics I'd rather read instead...

It's all very "we'll let you know at orientation," which isn't so bad, 'cepting it's 500 miles away and I won't know where I'm going to end up after that, or when, until it actually happens...

So you don't even know how many days you're packing for? That seems like a very reasonable question to ask. Especially since truck stops are often not very big on providing a selection of female necessities, from what I've read.

Ah, it's basically "you'll be at orientation 2-4 days, at some point durning which you'll have to take some tests similar to the ones for your CDL, but no idea when. Then you'll be put in a truck with a trainer for 10-15 days, after which we'll drop you off within 75 miles of your house for a break between your next session of 10-15 day training. The break will be anywhere between 3-7 days long."

There are some good truck stops i've seen, you just have to find them. some have laundrymats and everything. Even the okay ones have showers... it's more of the fact that I don't know what to expect that's freaking me out. called my partner, who's going with me on monday, and he's no idea either, and he's even pushier when it comes to questions than I am... Though I have been assured my trainer will be a "gentleman of high quality." Their words, not mine.
