Re: The Original Series thread
I heard a Gene Roddenberry interview in which he said they had wanted half women and half men on the ship, but the network vetoed that, so they ended up with 1/3 women and 2/3 men.

And I loved "Conscience of the King" - that was one of the best tos episodes.
Of course it was. It had Kevin Thomas Riley!

Yah, it sucks that Riley wasn't made a cast regular. He was a lot more interesting than Sulu, Chekov, Uhura, Chapel and Rand all put together.

Very much agreed! He had a personality and an interesting background.

My favorite Riley line: "Lieutenant Uhura, you interrupted my song; There will be no ice cream for you tonight!"
If I were ever to write a TOS fic it would most definitely focus on Riley. - maybe I'll use him when I get up the ambition to write my Piper story.

you even had a female jag officer as the prosecuter in kirks court martial.
And even she was an old girlfriend, I seem to recall.

Kirk had so many old flames from the academy that it got ridiculous. I don't think I could count them on my fingers...

And Spock, Scotty and McCoy only got one romance each.

No - Spock got at last two (This Side of Paradise, All Our Yesterdays) & four if you also count "The Cloud Minders" and "Enterprise Incident"

Re: The Original Series thread
I was surprised by the very evident chemistry there between Spock and the cloudminder woman. And with the Romulan captain. Is this typical Vulcan behavior/psychology do you think?

I don't know. Maybe it's just Spock's personality that led to the attraction(s)

It's his human side, trying to get out...
Re: The Original Series thread
Taking a leaf from Kirk's book - using his considerable appeal to get the intel.

Riley and Piper! Get going Coffeecat! Write that TOS story.
Uh, and I will make a concerted effort to finish the two stories I am working on despite the RL stuff going on.
Wasn't that Romulan commander played by the actor who also played Sarek (Mark Lenard), Spock's father? I managed to get hold of an autographed photo of Mark Lenard as Sarek at the last convention I attended. It had a certificate of authenticity with it as the actor passed away in 1996. I would love to have met him but I was not a regular fan of Star Trek until 1998 or 99, or actually after the century turned. Got hooked on Voyager reruns because they were on late at night when I was finally home from other activities. I got really pulled in with Enterprise. Then went back and found something to like in all the series. Funny, fandom did not take when I was watching TOS as a kid when it first came out. It was just a fairly interesting show back then - when I watched TV at all. Just had so many interesting activities that TV only had appeal when nothing else was going on.

Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

Darn, sorry about the double post. The computer took just so interminably long to respond that I thought I had not clicked hard enough. Anyone know How I can delete the double?
