Arabian Horses, maybe, or something similar? You'd have to breed them for stamina/endurance in a desert climate.

Q: Okay, cross-franchise question.

Three of the senior crew gets "swapped" into the Star Wars universe. They have their memories and skills intact, but find themselves as different people in the SW universe. a) Which three get swapped? and b)What do you see them ending up as? (a Jedi? A Senator? One of Jabba's court? Or...?)

Archer would be a senator. Definitely. He'd enjoy indulging in his penchant for long, boring speeches. Malcolm would be the commander of a Rebel base, and Hoshi would be his Jedi. Of course, that would leave T'Pol in charge on Enterprise with Trip as her first officer. I like that, too.

Q: It seems like every human society has their sport which serves to legitimize aggression...hunting, fishing, football, hockey, boxing, karate etc. Before the reformation of Surak, what sort of sports do you think the Vulcans would have engaged in? Somehow I don't think Kalifi would have been quite enough to satisfy their aggressive urges since it was a one-shot deal. They would have had to have something which served as "practice" for Kalifi, I'm thinking. Something less fatal. I know canon describes a martial art of some sort. Anybody know anything about that?

The martial art is called Suus Mahna. T'Pol used it in ENT "Marauders".

http://www.memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Suus_Mahna.

Considering the time on Vulcan, they probably have multiple martial arts and multiple disciplines involving weapons. (Not only the lirpa or the ahn-woon whip). Archery, knife/stick fighting, wrestling, probably. Maybe they'd have something like Jai Lai in Mexico, where it's a basketball-kind sport where you maneuver balls into round holes. Or probably jousting-kind matches? Gladitorial exhibitions using captured prisoners, a la Rome?

In "Desert Crossing", Trip and Archer played something like lacrosse in the desert. It'd be the type of sport that would require both brawn and strategy.

It would be simple. Something like this:

Phlox of Denobula
DXM, MD, PhD, MPH, FGAXM, AOA, Current President -DAOP
Chief Medical Officer, USS Enterprise NX-1701
Starfleet Medical Division
Subspace Code 75X-5689Y-45Z

Key:
*DXM= Doctor of Xenobiological Medicine
*MD= Standard Medical Degree
*PhD= in Xenopsychology
*MPH= Masters Degree in Public Health
*Fellow of the Association of Xenobiological Medicine
*Honorary Member of Alpha Omega Alpha, Earth's worldwide medical honor society
*Denobulan Association of Offworld Physicians

Q: What about T'Pol's business card? Would Vulcans even have one?

Eh Eh!
Simple, but true. :D
Mh... I think T'Pol couldn't have a business card. It would be... embarrassing.

The !@!@!%^$#*&! grappling hook on NX-01. What, everyone has tractor beams except Humans?? I don't care HOW good Travis's (or Malcolm's) aim is, that hook isn't worth squat.

This is an old question but I bet Vulcans would have made sport out of hunting Sehlats, since they seem to be so dangerous. Considering that they still undergo survival training and meditation retreats and long periods of solitude and reflection, I wouldn't be surprised if young Vulcan males underwent (or still undergo) a rite of passage similar to what the Spartans would do to their young men, send em out in the wild.

Maybe jousting on the fireplains, where one might fall into some nasty lava or a fire spout? :D

Archer- A Kentucky Bourbon... maybe Jim Beam or Wild Turkey
Trip- beer... maybe Budweiser
Malcolm - single malt scotch (Glenfiddich perhaps?) that he'll admit to, but secretly he adores Pina Coladas
Hoshi - Pina Coladas
T'Pol- Doesn't drink. The deliberate consumption of toxic chemicals is highly illogical. She's learned that through personal experience.
Phlox - he'll try anything once. He carries detox pills. : )

Q: Do you think a society of logical beings like Vulcans would continue to do things like do drugs, smoke, and drink alcohol after the reformation of Surak? It makes no sense to me to deliberately ingest toxic chemicals. Of course, the writers had T'Pol do it. *grumblegripegrumblestupidillogicalnitwits...*

Yeah, I was about to say you're not very canonical there, Distracted. T'Pol does quite a bit of tippling as this series goes by. Soval has the occasional glass to seal the deal, too.

But you're right, it's not logical, especially on a desert planet where dehydration would be an everpresent danger and the culture values reason and disapproves of emotion.

I kinda like Vulcans having their little foibles though, myself. And I could definitely see the occasional curious Vulcan scientist wanting to experiment with something that's supposed to be mindblowing in some way or another, like peyote. That was something I DIDN'T like about Enterprise -- that they tried to characterize Vulcans as a species as lacking in curiosity. That just didn't ring true for me.

Q: I don't know if this is really up for debate or not, but did Enterprise ever use any of that Trellium-D they'd collected for the hull or the shuttles? Or did they just put it away to protect T'Pol? I've seen both versions in fanfic but I don't recall anything addressing that in the series.

I have a weird thought: but is it possible that a Planet can be wholly desertic? Mhh... :doubt:
And... sorry. I think Vulcans don't disapprove of emotions. They are afraid of them.
But... well... you know my ideas...
Living without emotions is "utopia" and illogical, too. And impossible.
T'Pol learnt it. And Spock too.

I could be wrong, but I was always under the impression that they were blown up at Azati Prime before they had the chance to use it and were too busy effecting repairs to bother. Anybody else remember?

Q: Speaking of Azati Prime. I think it's generally agreed on this site that T'Pol had no business being in command as long as there was any reasonable alternative available. Since Archer was AWOL being a superhero and Trip was busy patching the ship back together with baling wire and duct tape, who would YOU have pegged for command once T'Pol was relieved of duty?

A: Well, I'd say that the next choice would be Malcolm.

And although I agree shouldn't have been in command, I don't think anyone could have stopped that disaster... :?

Q: What was Hayes' first name?

I searched that once for a story. Here's a link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_Hayes#Major_Hayes
Looks like the only thing canon is his first initial...J. In my story I used Jeremiah.

Q: I've seen a lot of Hayes/Reed friendship fics (and slash) based on that one scene in Harbinger where they had that fist fight. I really don't get it. This question is for the guys. Could beating each other to a bloody pulp really create a lasting friendship?

Yeah, Malcolm was pretty much the first officer for T'Pol anyway.

His nametag reads "J. Hayes". According to the Star Trek Customable Cards, they've given Hayes the first name of "Jeremiah" (from Memory Alpha). But I've seen a lot of fandom that's given him the name "Matthew" or "Matt." I don't know who started it. In my fics, I've compromised by giving him Jeremiah as his first name and Matthew as his middle name.

And for Dis's question: Yeah, I guess two guys could be friends after beating the crap out of each other. Get all that testosterone out of their system so they can actually think clearly. LOL. I think that thing between Hayes and Malcolm had been brewing (off-screen) for a while and they needed to settle it.

What do you think, guys? Can they?
