I hate the fact that homoginization seems to be the order of the day as the world continues to shrink. I am a HUGE advocate for individualism. So JT ROCK ON! Besides it isn't anymore weird than a girl who is a: Sci-Fi nut, Jane Austin Loving, Shakespere obsessed, Classic Movie snob, with a taste for almost every music there is (not Metal), history breathing, Art entusiast, who wants a husband and kids, while being a real writer, Iron Chef, and fashionista wanna-be. So Rock On!

Wow! I just watched that trailer. And I looked up Hypatia of Alexandria on wikipedia. Don't worry, I'll be there. Thanks!

I thought you'd like it, that's why I pointed out it to you. The film is actually more intimate and less epic than the trailer implies, but the director gets some good tension in one of the climatic scenes that made me think "Screw people, save the books! The books!" (If it is any consolation, I felt a little guilty afterwards :D)

And welcome back, KTR! I'm glad you had a good trip. By the way, does foreign people treat you differently when they discover you're a Swedish reporter? I say this because lately Swedish writer have a lot of success in the world (at least in Spain they're awfully famous.)

Thanks! And no, I haven't felt being treated differently. What kind of writers are you talking about? The prolific crime/thriller writers? I know many are huge in Germany for example. But I don't read those kinds of books.

Yeah, those. I only knew Henning Mankell (read some of his books) but there is this "Stieg Larsson phenomenonm" lately which has made him more famous than Dan Brown (and the Spanish editors are taking advance of his success to publish Camilla Läckberg's books.) A pity that the man is dead, now that he's so famous.

Well, obviously I know of them but I've never felt inclinded to read any of them (aside from one of Mankell's books that took place in Latvia, and that was a long time ago). Really not my cup of tea.

I'm sorry but that is too funny! In a good way. :D So I'm listening to Carrie Underwood's "Cowboy Casanova" and besides thinking that it's badly ripping off Pat Benitar, I'm thinking Hoshi would love to dance to it. It is a great dance song, but really either Pat Benitar or Martina McBride should have sung it. Little Carrie shouldn't try to play with rock Goddesses. She should stick to pure country/pop she's amazing at that.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any stupider, folks, it did:

So I go out to move my car from the street to the driveway. The radio is tuned to the classic rock station.

"(Don't Fear) The Reaper" is playing.

It's a conspiracy, I tell you.

At the end of January I need a new job (we live almost entirely of my income) and I just applied to this great job. I was so nervous writing the letter and now I can relax and get nervous if they invite me for a interview. My last job interview really... well, sucked is the right word. I was so angry with myself so blurting out a couple of things. When I came home my husband told me that it didn't matter, because I would hated working at that place. Which is true.

Yay, so you rescued yourself from horror. Consider it good practice for the interview you actually want.

My 7:30 class makes me so happy, and I told the dept. head, so now they're offering me TWO 7:30 classes next semester. Be careful what you ask for. Seriously, though, I love that class. I hope I'm that lucky again. If I got two more classes like my MWF class, I might want to shoot myself. Same curriculum. Same teacher, obviously. Skill levels are higher in the MWF group, but they're quiet and passive and hardly ever seem to have any fun. I guess it's just one of those mysteries of chemistry. Very strange.

Hey at least you know how to have fun and try to give an enjoyable experience to your students. That is so invaluable. The types of teachers that make me crazy are the ones that teach so they can argue, and the ones that view is as a job, and chore, instead of a passion.
