As you should be. Cheating on purpose is reprehencible. Seriously I do not blame you at all.
Some of these people haven't taken their medication. Let's see what happens now...

Re: The Whine thread.
Whine: I broke my cell phone on Friday. I was at the dealership, getting a recall notice taken care of. It was booger-freezing cold out there, so I never took my gloves off...was trying to handle the phone and papers and stuff in my gloved hands all at the same time, and the phone went careening to the floor. Natch, it wouldn't even turn on.
So, when I get it home I plug it in to see if that'll help. It kind of did, but it ONLY works if plugged in, and even then only sometimes--it'll just crack out and power off for no reason.
I ordered a new Droid Eris, which I'm excited about, but because my clumsiness couldn't see fit to happen before 4:30 pm EST, the phone won't ship until Monday, which means I have to wait 'til Tuesday to have it in my hot little hand.
So in the meantime, Friday night was lots of fun, trying to pix mail my pictures to my email account so I wouldn't lose them forever. The phone would often power off in the middle of a send, so some of those pictures took up to six attempts before I was able to complete the process.
This whole thing has been extremely annoying!

Re: The Whine thread.
I just experienced another seriously disturbing and scary medical event. I woke up in the middle of the night with severe chills and couldn't stop shaking for over an hour. I almost got sick a few times and then it stopped. Now I feel fine, except for the racing heart. I have doctor's appointment today. I hope this is nothing serious. I've never experienced anything like that before. On top of all fo the other stuff I experienced a few weeks backs this stuff is very scary. Reading the internet about symptoms only causes anxiety. I might become convinced that I have a deadly disease such as Leukemia. We'll see what the doctor says.
I don't want to be sick now. I've just turned everything around. I talked to Eric the other night about going back to school and he told me to "go for it". The girls are too young yet.
Sigh!

Sigh!

DO NOT READ INTERNET! What you had can be everything and nothing, you have to talk with the doctor. But let aside internet, believe me
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four
And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

The internet doesn't replace a doctor, but it can help you after you have a diognosis.

Re: The Whine thread.
You would not BELIEVE the crap my students come up with off the Internet. I flunked this guy's research paper because he was giving me recreational drug sites run anonymously by druggies as his major sources. So then he sends me a couple of others to okay for him -- one is yet another recreational drug site run by a couple of freaks (though at least they have degrees and aren't anonymous). The other is run by a New Mexico PRISON INMATE who relies on principles of L.RON HUBBARD (Scientology's founder).
HELLO.
Another young man gave me this site about steroids that systematically tried to debunk every medical finding ever made against steroids. So, it would say, for example, that yeah, men on high doses might grow breasts, but before that happens they'd get all tingly so they'd be able to step down before that happens. I said, "Don't you see all the ads for steroids and other substances all over this home page?"
"But it's good stuff! There are scientific charts and everything!"
Oy.
Having said all that, I head to the Internet for stuff too. I just vet it pretty carefully.

Re: The Whine thread.
If these students can't be bothered to do something as radical as set foot in the library or even use a decent academic search engine, you'd think they could at least find more reputable sources online, legitimate publications such as a New York Times article or a Newsweek report. The AMA and CDC... I mean, come on, it's fairly obvious.
And frightening.
And frightening.

Re: The Whine thread.
Actually that's the part I get confused over. They'll fire up their computers and not even bother to look up an academic search engine. You really don't need to go to a library most of the time now. So what's with the lazy sources?

Re: The Whine thread.
Well, I maintain that you just can't replace books. But you're right, it's so easy to get decent sources. If someone is that dead-set against using their brain, maybe college isn't the place for them.
Secondly, I have to wade through microfiche (which isn't too bad) and microform (which is hideous), so I have exactly zero sympathy for these lazy bums.

I prefer books as well I was merely speaking in general terms.

Re: The Whine thread.
I think it's most common with the students who really just don't want to read anything that disagrees with their preconceived notions (Prozac is bad, Ecstasy is good...that's two different papers). They're freaked out at the concept of coping with dissenting points of view.
Which is just too bad. Why do they think they have to do research in the first place?

Another alarming reflection on the kind of world they might seek to create.Alelou wrote:I think it's most common with the students who really just don't want to read anything that disagrees with their preconceived notions (Prozac is bad, Ecstasy is good...that's two different papers). I wouldn't really trust those sources either... And I work for a newspaper!

She's got an awfully nice bum!

Re: The Whine thread.
NY Times sure blew their Iraq reporting by Judith Miller, but I would consider it reasonably reliable. However, this is supposed to be an ACADEMIC research paper, so it's about finding peer-reviewed journal articles or books written by people with real credentials in their field.
I let them bring in even the wacky stuff if they give it as an example of wacky stuff or at least biased stuff. But they have to balance it with something more rigorous.
