Re: Randomness
Books, can't live without them. Have thousands. Probsably have only read a third or half. But I love owning them. so, I keep buying the things knowing that when I go to my reward they will wind up at a thrift store or at the friends of the lIbrary. Hopefully someone who loves books will get them.

Thanks for the interesting link, Entilzha.
I am reading now the book about skyscrapers in the breaks from gaming, TriS and readind fanfics and another book about the art.
I liked so far the views (they only in the book) of the interiors of the living flats in Sweden "Turning Torso":

And I was impressed by reasoning of the construction of The Deutsche Post Tower in Bonn:

Burj Dubai had only 4 pages in the end of that book.

I love books but I found also that the process of buying the books, choosing them in the shop is the best tool for stress relaxing for me after the hard work day.
I can buy many books and read some book only in one or two years. But I am reading all bought books and left that liked by me for the pleasure of looking at them if I may not spend the time for rereading them.

OMG somebody stole my DREAM WEDDING!!!!!

...so tomorrow is my first day back to school after three weeks off. I've gotten so incredibly lazy in so short a time. Though I've suffered a horrible loss in that period of time, I've also spent a sublime amount of time in bed with the laptop reading. I sure hope I can find my motivation again. I need another really good semester.

The CN tower doesn't count because the top half is a broadcasting antenna.

So WHY, I wonder, is the tallest building in the western hemisphere not on thet graph?????
The Willis Tower, aka Big Willie, formerly the Sears Tower is 1,450 feet tall and 110 stories high.
Just for the record.....

Exactly! Counting antennas is cheating...

Re: Randomness
Am I an idiot for loving the Empire State building? Casting aside the fact that I am a native NYer. I saw this building properly for the first time when I was six years old. I was in NYU for three months due to back sugery and it was an afternoon out. Thbuilding was just beautiful, the floors, the walls, even the elevators. Then you go to the roof and the view! It was an extremely important experience for me. So that building has a special place in my heart. I find it very hard to compare with other buildings. The Chrysler building is also special, because I could see it gleaming in the sun out my hospital window. So the old Deco NY skyscapers are special to me. These modern, how tall can they be, monstrosities have no real depth to me.

Temporary General Chat
Hi guys. I put a temporary general chat thread in Trip and T'Pol Discussion so it will appear in "View Active Topics." So go ahead and put your Randomness and Happy News and Whines here for now. We can sort it out later.
Wish I had something to chat about. I'm back from the big Econ Con! At one point I was sitting two seats behind PAUL KRUGMAN!!! Nah, it's not as fun as a Star Trek con . . . .

Re: Temporary General Chat
I'm a little confused about the purpose of this thread. I know the "active topics' thingy isn't working the way it's supposed to, but the threads within General Chat work just fine; when someone posts in that section, the indicator beside "general chat" still lights up, as do the individual threads within the area. And the topic reply notifications still work, so if someone posts to a thread you're watching/have posted to, it'll show up in your email if you have that feature turned on.
So I guess I'm not sure why we need this thread when all you need is a few seconds to just physically look at the area in question to see what's going on? I confess I might be missing something here, as I'm still recovering from a long day yesterday.

Re: Temporary General Chat
Since I don't read all the threads, so if I go to General Chat most of the threads are lit up and I can't remember or find what I posted to (I don't have that reply alert turned on). While I was away, I got online once or twice, clicked on "active topics" and wondered at the inactivity. I didn't even go further and read the threads since none of them grabbed me. Once I figured out what was happening, I was worried that casual visitors might also be concluding that the board is kind of dead this week. I want everyone to be able to chat easily and also to be aware that the situation is a temporary problem.
