My whine...?

Well, there is a conflict brewing at my workplace the newspaper (well, and on most other Swedish newspapers). Now there is an overtime blockade from the Journalists' Union in force, which means my flexible hours has temporarily gone away and I can't work after 6 PM. And starting on Wednesday we cannot publish anything we've not produced ourselves. That means no news wire articles, no photo agency pics, no op-eds (my responsibility), no features, no TV listings etc. :doubt:

Gah! I hate this crap. It just makes work more difficult. :explode:

That's insane. My favorite parts of the newspaper (the op-ed section and the crossword puzzles) wouldn't be allowed.

I'm mad because the place I'm going to grad school has insanely high mandatory fees, especially compared to where I did my undergrad, which was different school but part of the same state univeristy system. The unified fee "covers those educational expenses not related to tuition." Of course, it's not so unified that they don't add on other fees. Oh, no, that $301 fee isn't enough. There's still a $98 Fitness and Recreation Center fee and a $15 communications fee. What this boils down to is that the state legislature won't approve a tuition hike, so they came up with Plan B. :bitch: If they spent less money on the stupid hockey program, I bet there'd be plenty of money.

^ Because the Union says so, that's why. That how much power the have in our labour system. If there is a conflict this is one of the means at their disposal to pressure the Employers into agreeing on a deal about wages and working condition for the coming period.

I fully expect a full blown strike before this is finally over...

Your union thinks that more people would be employed if everything was "homegrown?"

Whine: Tummyache. Too. Much. Chocolate.

I have no self-control when it comes to good dark chocolate. Or semi-sweet chocolate. Or brownies... Y'all get the idea.

Now I want to curl up, clutch my tummy, and bemoan the evil chocolate gods.

Nah! It's just a way for them to keep pressure on the Publishers' Association.

And it will escalate next Thursday, when no one will be allowed to work after 6 PM. That means the entire paper has to be finished that early.

Awwww. Best wishes for little "Lorian"!

Whine: It's August and it's cooooooooooollllllddddd! :( I'm in sweatpants, a long sleeved top, and am huddled under my electric blanket.

Even the skating rink was incredibly cold today (I know, I know!). I usually am down to my tank top part of the way through a session and today I ended up putting on my hoodie and trying not to shiver the entire time. (Hmph, when I complained about the cold to another woman, she looked pointedly at my tight-clad legs and little skating skirt and said pointedly, "Well, if you wore more clothes... " :? ). I need to find a warmer hobby, like Volcano spelunking.

Whines: School costs too damned much. My roommate who owns the house that I live in might very well lose it 'cause he was unemployed for over a year. I need to go to the dentist but can't afford it.

And I don't have a pet monkey. :(
