I'm snowed in! We got 28.5 inches here in Philly. My street is not yet plowed. So, I'm not going anywhere tomorrow.

At least I got my taxes started.

I thought we were too far south for this weather to affect us. I was wrong. We had a trip to Disneyworld Orlando planned for the Mardi Gras holiday. "Had" being the operative word. All flights out of our area to Orlando have been cancelled though Sunday. I've spent the past hour cancelling things and consoling my terribly disappointed eleven year old. This sucks.

I guess it's just as well. The Orlando forecast for the weekend calls for lows in the 30's and rain. That doesn't sound like very pleasant weather to do Disney. And because the airline cancelled the flights themselves we'll get a full refund on our tickets. The Hilton let us cancel without penalty, too. So all we're forfeiting is my registration to the medical conference I was going to attend every morning while the rest of the gang was in the park (and I'm working on that).

Fortunately, our 5 day park passes (at over 250 dollars a person  ) are apparently good as long as Disney stays in business. Now all we have to do is find another week when we're all free to go to Disney. Which is more challenging than it sounds.

The prices of those theme park tickets are stunning, aren't they? Especially considering that once you're in you're a captive audience for all sorts of additional costs, from parking to food and shows and gifts.

I signed up for the volunteer a day/get a free ticket thing Disney has been running in the hope of cutting our theme park expense this summer (or at least my mother's, since she usually pays). Tomorrow's my stint at Habitat, and I'm actually looking forward to it since we're going to hang sheet rock and that's a skill I could use. (Our basement is still unfinished, and the tape is separating from some of the walls upstairs.)

Last time I volunteered for Habitat I also had to pitch in $300 of fundraising, and I got tar on a new coat and my hiking boots. This time seems like a much better deal, knock wood. They might get me back on a semi-regular basis if I don't have to pay for the privilege.

Distracted, never been to Disneyland, never want to go to Disneyland. My Daughtr has year long pass to it, goes all of the time. Takes the kids along. spends a fortune everytime. Good thing Phil makes a six figure salary. My wife has gone once or twice too. I refuse to go near the place. The Crowds, the prices, the gouging. Wait in line for hoursto see something or get on a ride? Pay a fortune for food? Not fo rme.

It's a game for the young.

I love Sea World, mostly because I love dolphins and penguins, but after going there for three trips in a row I'm hoping Alejandro will be willing to give Epcot a chance. It's fun once a decade or so, and I know my mother would like to go back too. My father doesn't go on these expeditions, which is a good thing, because he gets tired and cranky in about twenty minutes.

I do anticipate a battle, however. Alejandro adores killer whales.

Epcot is wonderful for people of all ages & interests. We've been there for their Horticulture show and the food & wine festival several times. Great musice, culture, food. I just love all that stuff in Orlando. We're driving down there in July.

Epcot, and Sea World are awsome places, however... Florida is not my favortie place. Sorry Trip bad memories. But Sillverbullet is right. The pricing is sheer robbery. They rob you blind.

My whine: My back is still very bad so I can't go home yet. I've been here almost a month. But I can't write fanfic at all. When will I be able to go home? I have no idea.

So the entrance fees for all the Florida/Orlando theme parks are pretty expensive, huh? Even if it's just for one day?

What's to see apart from Disney World, Epcot and Sea World? I think I read somewhere there was a Harry Potter park?

The reason I ask is that I might go to Florida in May (if I can get a vacation then, and if I have enough money). I want to see one of the last shuttle launches if possible.
