Did you know that most people in Iceland have no family surnames? They add "son" or "dotter" (sp?) to their father's name after their first names. So...my name would be Louise Robertsdotter, daugher of Robert, or Robertson, if I were male.

We're going to Disney World in July. Yup, we're nuts. We usually go in October so it's going to be HOT HOT HOT!!! This will be my 5th time there. I adore Epcot. Can't spend enough time there!

Alas, leaving on the 20th. We only spend one day at the park, anyway. Florida is mostly for checking in with the family, but my parents do plan to attempt Epcot with us since they've always liked that one. (After three visits in a row to Seaworld I told my son that's ENOUGH. He's been prejudiced against Disney ever since I very stupidly took him into The Haunted House when he was eight or something.)

I've read about those beans. Apparently, once you get over the ick factor - they produce the best coffee in the world. However, I'll have to check with my militant vegan friends on whether or not that would be considered an "animal product". LOL

I still don't know about my parents, apart from that they're still in Spain. They're very low tech, don't have cell phones, a landline or Internet access. And the airspace is still closed. Even some air spaces open up tomorrow, there will probably be whole swaths across continental Europe blocking the flight paths from Spain to Sweden.

Good thing they have an apartment there, so they don't have to worry about hotel costs.

Got my ENG 300 portfolio and my creative writing portfolio turned in about an hour ago. Spent all day revising & preparing those papers, in addition to writing an extra credit essay for psych of human aging, which I turned in just now. Psych exam starts in about 15 minutes. I'm not nervous; he drops our lowest exam grade and so far my grades have been A, A, and A- respectively.

Wed's chem exam is what's gonna kill me. It's cumulative, and it's my weakest subject.

Well, you know, unless you're trying to get into med school, you don't really NEED an A in chemistry, do you? I'm impressed that you're taking it. All my sciences in college were fluffy libert-arts-major non-lab versions of the real thing.

They're going to start lifting airspace restrictions starting tomorrow. Still don't know about my parents, but their airline says they won't start flying to Sweden until Wednesday.

The good news about he volcano is that it now seems not to create as much ash anymore. Instead there's more lava coming out.

Remember, I'm trying desperately to clean up a less than stellar GPA. So no, I'm not trying to get into med school, but I *am* trying to qualify for scholarships.

And this is a "fluffy liberal-arts-major-non-lab" class, called "Chemistry and Society." We're only doing a fraction of what we did when I was taking high school chemistry way back when, but when you consider how much time has passed and the fact that I had a D average in the class as a junior in high school, this still isn't terribly easy for me. I'm getting a B- (I think), but I've struggled for it. I should feel lucky that I'm taking this now instead of 20 years ago; this class wasn't offered back then, I would've had to take the "real" thing.

SB--the entire course was Psychology of Human Aging. I've had to do multiple essays for the class, including midlife crisis (which I did on myself, lol ), retirement, and caregiving. The one I referred to in my last post was extra credit. The actual assignment was to attend a Careers in Aging talk given at the university and write about it, but I was unable to attend because of a conflict with work, so I pitched an alternate idea to my professor: my mother has been a registered nurse for 30 years, and part of that time, she worked on her hospital's geriatric psych unit. I suggested that I interview her and write a paper about what kind of qualifications you need, a typical day for her at work on the unit, general pros and cons of the job, as well as what she personally liked and disliked about her experiences there. Basically, instead of a paper with a little bit of information about several possible careers, I'd have a lot of information about one career, and he liked the idea. I didn't really need the extra credit, I'm already getting an A in the class, but again, I'm thinking in terms of those scholarships; many of them require recommendations from your professors, and I wanted to show him what I look like when I'm working hard and going the extra mile.
