Ditto. Best of luck. All that matters in the end is that you're happy. None of it's worth it otherwise.

So, I had the great privilege of seeing Mary Karr speak tonight. If you aren't familiar, she is a memoirist and probably wrote one of the best childhood memoirs ever written called The Liar's Club, which was also a huge hit when it came out. Sometimes, writers are not impressive in person. She was impressive. She owned the room with both smarts and charisma. She managed to be both self-deprecating and arrogant (with good cause) and was very funny.

Someone asked her how to sell a memoir. Her reply "Write it better than everyone else."

Good advice, if easier said than done.

Another gem. Someone asked her what to do if his brother disagreed with the childhood memories in his memoir.

"Tell him to write his own damn book then."

But, what struck me was her fearlessness and confidence. Which seems like have the battle.

I'm not at this conference to write memoir and I don't usually write memoir - but it was just great to hear her talk.

Ok, I have designer's block. I am now designing a car dealership and the main focus is the exhibition angle. I have my floorplan and my main structure done, but I haven't reached a design for the cover that I am comfortable with. I have the ideas, but they don't seem to add the proper edge to my design... I need to step outside my box somehow...

Have you got a program that will do a 3-D reconstruction of your design complete with landscaping and images of the cars on the sales floor? You could do a futuristic version and tweak the landscaping and car designs so they look like a car dealership of the future. Maybe hovercars or cars with wings flying out of the lot and monorails in the background.

My 3D program will only show me whatever I design in it. Stupid thing won't work by itself, imagine that... I might just take my design to the studio as it is, and have my friends take a look and bounce ideas or something...

Well, actually what I meant was to suggest that you design landscaping and futuristic vehicles to dress up your building design and I wanted to know whether you had a 3-D program that could produce decent images of the same, but I guess that would be an awful lot of work. I'm sure that your coworkers who are actually familiar with the kind of work you do, unlike clueless me, will be able to come up with a better idea. Good luck.

Thought I'd check in and say hello. I've been very busy! Working a lot, taking my online class, being a board moderator... It's all good, though. :) How is everyone else doing?

I was just thinking of you -- we haven't eaten lunch in forever.

I can't believe how fast the summer is going.

Yes, I know. :( I feel so out of touch... We need to get together before the summer ends.

But not tomorrow -- I'm heading off to the Adirondacks tonight. I've been wanting to go to The Wild Center for a long time, and Jaime took tomorrow off, so we're hopping in the car. Yay.
