Never been either, but that's what my Dad, who did spend about five days there said too. The smog was a killer. That was ten years ago, but I doubt it is any better.

If you ever played Oregon Trail as a kid (or like me, last week).
LOL.
(If you never played the popular 80's/90's computer game Oregon Trail, you will not understand. If you did, you will laugh your face off.)

Oh, dear, "the Zombie years" LOL . . . I'm thinking of ER and the X-Files. I can't beleive I watched the last two seasons of X-Files, hoping that the endless hints of Mulder's imminent return weren't just a tease.
I'm donating my body to science fiction.

Re: Randomness
All I can think of is JAG... I love Steven Culp LOVE him, but when they foisted Mac on him, and fake killed him AGAIN, and destroyed his and Harm's frenemey status... I just died. And 9 years for a proposal... Why do TnTers think they had it bad????? BTW I will always love JAG...

Re: Randomness
Sigh. That illustration is so true and it certainly defines some of the shows I've watched (or continue to watch out of morbid curiosity.) When I read "The characters crest the hill of natural evolution and are eased into the tar pits of self-parody for fear of disrupting the show's successful (and lucrative) rhythm" I immediately thought of NCIS and what has happened to the DiNozzo character (who was once my favorite and now is becoming one of my least favorite for this very reason.) The line in the seventh season about increasingly harebrained plots? That is a perfect explanation for why the seventh season of NCIS sucked as badly as it did.
Moral of the story? Do five seasons of a show. Period. End it there.

Re: Randomness
It does indeed remind me of all too many shows. For example I bailed on JAG when it started getting this silly. And Rigil is so right about NCIS.
Sometimes I wonder if it wasn't for the best about ENT. Imagine how wretched TPTB could have made that show had it remained for seven seasons!? Imagine all the crap they'd do with TnT! The horror!

Re: Randomness
That commentary about tv series and writers is so true when it came to JAg and it's last few seasons with nonsense like that stupid storyarc with Mac and Steven Culp's supposed Romantic. relationship
I'm glad when they finally dumped it.At least Harm and Mac finally ended up together.

Re: Randomness
I never thought there would be so many ex-JAG fans here. You know the reverse is also true... The Pretender got cancled right at its zenith. Than two cruddy movies later STILL NO ANSWERS!

Re: Randomness
Yet, few Oregon Trail fans. Curious.
So for the last few days I have been filled with an
UNHOLY BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH RAAAAAAAAAAGE!
(Can you imagine me getting emotional over anything? I mean, I'm the calmest person around, right?)
My computer decided to completely die horribly, yet with a few little "oh, suddenly I boot just fine" moments, to give me false hope and truly fuc k with my mind. I did the whole chkdsk c: /f /r and allll that shite, and it was just horrible problems, and this comp had always been a lemon anyhow.
So I've been sitting here, restarting repeatedly, thinking of how I haven't checked my email in 2 days, and I do websites for people and have new clients who I can't just leave hanging.
So at work today I was shouting at the girls that I was just "damwell gonna go to future shop and buy the best computer they have with my credit card and just pay it off till 2020, who cares!" (Course I didn't, I was just ranting).
But then I get home, and Priso's all "hey sweetie, you're all stressed these days with this horrible comp probs, so let's just buy a new one with our future shop card". And he drove away and came back with a 64 bit quad core 1TB system with 8 GB of RAM, Intel H57 Express chipset, and 1 GB of dedicated video memory! Faster star trek video rendering!
(No payments/interest till next year. So, in Aug 2011, I'll be on here
'ing about how I have to cough up $ for my yearold computer.
)
I've put my two other drives from the stupid computer into this one and it's alllll working. WORKING! WOOOORRRRRRRKING!!! BWHAHAHAHAHA!
Here's the new motherboard. It's so juicy.

Re: Randomness
I live on a dirt roade...in the middle of nowhere. I should be far away from the rat race and the crime and the drama.
Yet, last Friday, this is going down two houses over from where I live when I come home from grocery shopping: http://www.livingstondaily.com/article/20100815/NEWS01/8150330/Barricaded+man+gives+in++gets+care
As I'm coming up the road, I see that one car has another pulled over...the road's almost completely blocked but I can barely get by. If it was a police car it was completely unmarked, not even the removable light on the roof or anything. As I pass I see a man out of the car talking to two people in the pulled over car. The man is not in uniform--just a royal blue dress shirt--and a big-assed gun on his hip.
So I pass, continue home. I see the first car pass by the house as I unload my groceries...and then Dress Shirt Guy's car speeds after them--no siren, just horn honking.
Grandma comes over to inform me there's guys with guns next door (not the house where this article was going down at but on the other side of us)...so we get the distinct impression they're looking for somebody. I tell Grandma to go back to her house and lock the doors. She informs me that one of the doors doesn't lock. I'm all "WHUT??" and she tells me "the guy is coming to fix it next week." Concerned about this, I ask her if she wants me to come over and push something up against it so nobody can come in.
This is the best part.
She looks at me like I lost my damn mind and declares, "I've got my shotgun."
90 years old and if someone comes into her house, she's still gonna shoot their ass of!!
