Alelou, I am wary of free downloads. They can contain some nasty things like Virus or Trojans. Have been burned downloading a program. So, I stay away from them. May cost me a bit but one I buy at a retailer is guaranteed against those things. That and I can go back to the company that produces it. Freeware doesn't have that. You are taking your chances.

Silverbullet, Freeware producers make sure that their software is clean, too. If you download the software from their homepage you are safe. I've written some freeware myself, so I know the safety precautions the teams take. Just make sure you download from the official homepage of the authors. Freeware tends to be made available by numerous sites and not all distributors are implementing sufficient safety measures, but original authors usually do. You're even better catered for, if the homepage is hosted on sourceforge.net, they have quite a good safety system.

I agree.

As long as you are careful, you are fine.

Also, if unsure, it is always handy to go to Start→ Programs→ Accessories→ System Tools→ System Restore and create a "restore point" before making any changes or downloads. Then if anything goes haywire, you can restore the system to the state it was in when u made the restore point.

Black Friday, Black Friday, good old Bait and Switch day.

go in to find that the retailer has only two or three of the advertised item but they have a far more expensive, Delux version, Which they will be happy to sell you. Lots of those. Not on sale of course.

That is called Bait and Switch and once was supposedly illegal but is alive and well on Black Friday.

I saw some Software I wanted for a really good price. Retailer only had four copies of it. By the time I got to the retailer all copies had been sold. However, some Delux version for about 300 dollars were available in good supply. I should hav e known. Been a while since I read those Black Friday ads. If it says "while Supplies Last" you know that is the retailers saying there will only be afew copies. It is their safety valve. Supplies have run out, sorry.

My stepdaughter called to tell me about wandering Wal-Mart all night looking for a waffle iron, which no one could find and apparently they never stocked. She saw a woman bang a guy in a wheelchair with her cart to try to make him move out of the way. There were people sitting in all the aisles, waiting for the midnight sales, or maybe the 5am sales. There were also people lined up around the outside of the store even though it was open. :vulcan:

That sounds scary  People are really banging a guy in a wheelchair ?? :o What the hell has the world come to? I've looked into the barrel of Kalashnikov AK-47's several times, 20 years ago, over here in East Germany when we dared to protest for something as outrageous as free speech, but no one, even the communist Gestapo would ever mishandle a disabled guy! That's just sick. :?

Oh, but, it's "excusable" cause there was a certain thing that person was trying to buy, and old "Wheely" was just in the way, wasn't he? Buying Things is the most important thing in the WORLD!

Hell, people have been crushed to death in front of these stores.

I think it's sick. No deal is that good. But I know there are people who get into the thrill of the hunt, and then I guess the mob frenzy can take over.

People have done that to me at the mall on a perfectly ordinary summer day. And at the grocery store too, is it really Black Friday?

One time I was walking downtown, and these, like, five guys jumped this one other guy (who was, admittedly, cussing them out and so forth) in the middle of a busy sidewalk in the middle of the day. I was about 3 weeks pregant, and I thought of interfering, but thought of the fact that I was pregnant, and so did nothing but edge along the sidewalk to the bus. Everyone else seemed to be thinking along the same lines as they all averted their eyes to this guy getting rushed and just walked along.

Then out of nowhere this old First Nations lady in a disability scooter comes barreling along and bashes her scooter into the legs and knees of the attackers and starts screaming and swearing at them, and the group dissolves and the victim gets away. It was so awesome. And also sad and weird that she was the only one who helped.
