Here's the review I made of it for WWBJ after I first caught it.

Spider-Man 3

Unfocused. Seriously, that's how I'd classify this movie. I've recently read how Avi Arad (the producer) pushed Sam Raimi into using Venom (whom Raimi doesn't like) because Venom is such a popular character (how I don't understand), and it shows. Honestly, Venom serves no purpose whatsoever in this movie, nor for that matter does the "black suit."

The entire movie is tied together by a string of numerous conveniences that just irked me. It's convenient that the alien symbiote lands near the only super-powered hero in this continuity's universe. It's convenient that Harry suffers from amnesia after a shaky, claustrophobic fight. It's convenient that there is a high tech experimental lab for Flint Marko to fall into to become Sandman. It's convenient that Aunt May shows up to pass on a bit of wisdom. It's convenient for the Osborn butler to have seen & heard some stuff so he can pass it on at the dramatically appropriate moment.

It's also pretty sad that the Love Interest (Mary Jane) is clearly outshined by Betty Brant (the luscious Elizabeth Banks) and Gwen Stacey (the equally gorgeous Bryce Dallas Howard). Compared to those two, Kirsten Dunst looks ... washed out.

Some of the fights were not bad, some of them were poorly done. Seeing Spidey bounce around like he should was okay although there were a couple of scenes that were so obviously CG that it hurts. The guy playing JJ Jameson was hilarious, and there was a pretty funny scene with Bruce Campbell. Franco (Harry Osborn) was pretty good too, but Tobey Macguire seemed ... bored.

And there were three fricking singing routines in this movie. No crap.

So I can't, in any honesty, give it higher than a 2.5 out of 5. It didn't suck, but it wasn't very great. Go watch Hot Fuzz instead.

I've been a Spider-Man fan since grade school. The first comic I ever purchased was a Spider-Man book, and, for that matter, the last one I purchased was a Spidey book. I own both of the other two movies on DVD.

I'm not planning on buying 3 when it comes out on DVD. (Just like X-Men 3 ... hmmm ... coincidence?)

X-Men 3 sucked mivonks. 1 and 2 were awesome. So far I think Spiderman 3 is weaker than 1 and 2 Confused

I'm a Spidey fan too. I watched half the movie on filmzzz.com and didn't bother to sit through the rest. I might attempt it tonight, but I already came to just about the same conclusion Rigel came up with - too many convenient plot devices for my taste.

I enjoyed Spiderman 1 & 2 tho...

Also funny: Superman is a Dick. It's a collection of actual Superman covers throughout the years that show he's kind of a butt nugget. They're hilarious.

boushh: it's been a combination of factors, but the major is definitely lack of time. My boyfriend has been trying to get some episodes because he loves the show, but I still haven't had a chance.

I haven't watched Spidey 3. I didn't like the second one all that much, so I'm reluctant to watch this one.

Just done watching Spiderman 3. I didn't think it was as good as the first 2 Confused I thought a lot of it was like too contrived. And kinda like slower and heavier and overall weaker. Well not as bad as the atrocious X-Men 3 but then again X-Men 3 is like a pretty hard low to sink to. And I didn't really like most of the Sandman scenes because they were way too CGI and the poor kind of CGI. Confused But I liked Harry and Peter being friends again and working together.
