Huge Star Trek XI Spoiler

This isn't for the faint of heart. I'm talking, "Riker is chef, Trip dies, and Shran's a jewel thief" type stuff. Not kidding. Walk away now. I'm warning you... it's not pretty. Well, it's... whatever it is.
Seriously if you don't like spoilers don't read this because it's probably going to AT LEAST be a big "Holy *&$!%!" moment in the theaters, if nothing else. So you might want to save yourself the surprise. In some ways I wish I had saved it but... in other ways, hmphf. I wanted to know what I was walking into so I didn't break down crying like a little girl in front of strangers.
Funny how Star Trek writers have a habit of causing that lately

Vulcan is destroyed. Permanently.... Ok, well since you probably want to know HOW the hell that's possible, so you'll probably just go google for spoilers on your own, I'll just say it. It's an alternate universe. Like, it's an ADMITTEDLY an alternate universe.

So the whole thing about Trip's death in the abomination episode turns out to be set in an alternate universe? Or this whole new movie is set in an alternate universe?

The movie. Although the way they set it up it still doesn't make sense, because all the visual changes apparently are still supposed to happen before the AU stuff starts happening.

the villain, Nero, is a Romulan from the future, not from Kirk's time. He's there to destroy Vulcan for some vendetta against Spock... I don't know the details, though... so that's why it's AU, the time travel involved.

Okay...but I thought AU was an alternate universe, and time travel in your own universe was not considered an alternate universe. Sounds like I am not going to like this movie very much. It still makes very little sense.

Also if you're a long time TOS fan they won't be happy about[color=#F I don't like this happening to one of my favorite characters at all.

Amanda is killed off in the movie when Spock beams down to Vulcan to rescue his parents Sarek is saved. but not Amanda
