So being that I'm in the East coast of the US.

What area of the sky to I need to look at in order to see anything?

From what I can gather... up. I looks like it'll just appear to be overhead....

How'd it show up?

It was only medium exciting, for those with a clear view. Like 20 meteors per hour. I had a foggy view so I went back to bed.

Below are some video clips taken by Larry McHenry, of our Pittsburgh astronomy club.

Me again: Hmm . . . since these meteors cross each other's paths they are not both Persieds. That's very possible, but there is a wink preceeding the second clip, so it may be something other than a meteor.

I think the "joke" is that it's a sattelite and I'm supposed to be able to guess which one.

You know, my mom and I were looking tonight (saw a few) and we also saw this weird light that wobbled around. It'd go in little tiny triangles and such. We rationally figured it's a satellite of some sort, but you never know.

Isn't the August show because Earth passes through a patch with a lot of space junk?

I'm guessing the weird little light was a green lazer pointer. No sattelites go in wobbly triangles.

Oh and the Persieds meteor shower (and all the other meteor showers happen when the Earth passes through where a comet's orbit and hits the the trail of particles it left behind.
