I just sorta noticed that I hadn't seen him around in awhile. It says his last sign-in was August 14th, but he had posts up through August 18th.

Does anyone talk to him on other boards? He posted like 12 times during August 15th-18th then just up and vanished

I, too, would like to have news. I worry, somewhat.

He left right after he posted a link that I deleted. It was to a free online copy of TGTMD, which the next poster claimed was illegal and the next poster directed us to the legal version for $4.95. That was all I did. Removed the link and said "Sorry, I don't want the site to get in trouble."

There was nothing wrong with removing that link, JT. That is part of you job (unpaided but appreciated by all of us and we don't thank you often enough!). So don't feel bad about him leaving even if it was partly due to the deletion of the link.

Gosh, it would be nice for people at least to leave a message before they disappear - either public or private message, so we don't worry and wonder if they got run over by a truck or something. I was just thinking that on the internet, often we have no way of knowing the reason when someone leaves a site or board that they were active in. It is not like you can go knock on the door to their house and ask! So, when people leave (any site), it is polite to tell people!

Some people leave without warning or the "final farewell message/bomb" because they don't want to come across as a drama queen & because it's proper netequette to do it that way.

You won't come across as a drama queen if you say good-bye nicely. And if people take it that way, so what? You are gone, you probably won't be back to see what they are saying about you. You told them you were leaving, so no one is scanning obituaries looking for you. I never heard of netequette, but if that is supposed to be good etiquette, I disagree with it. But then, I don't spend much time on the net so that very well may be the accepted practice. Well, if that is so, I am glad I inhabit just a small part of the net and spend most of my time in RL. (Not that RL is any better behaved, mind you)

Well, I was wondering about him, too...hope he's OK.

Nothing wrong with saying good bye. Like, you, I don't agree with all netequette - I was just pointing out that it exists and it might have been why he left without saying goodbye.

If I had to guess, it'd probably be that it had to have something to do with the reaction to the pictures he posted, and when he talked about partying.

I considered that. Also, he said had a new job...

I don't think it was that. I looked at his last few posts (publically visible, by the way) and they had nothing to do with that. They were about Misanthropic's new story and discussion about TGTMD.

Well, I left the TrekBBS without really saying goodbye and making a big show of it. Most of the people I interacted with knew why anyway, through other means (and other boards). And they could tell anyone else who might have wondered.

Yeah, but like you said everybody who knew you knew why
