Eclipse Thread!

Postby enterprikayak » Thu Feb 14, 2008 5:15 am

NASA Science News for February 13, 2008
On Wednesday evening, February 20th, the full Moon over the Americas will turn a delightful shade of red and possibly turquoise, too. It's a total lunar eclipse—the last one until Dec. 2010.

Photo jamboree time! I'm sure JustTripn has her evening planned, doesn't she JustTripn?

Let us all discuss the impending eclipse and post our pictures of it if we are lucky enough to get them on the 20th.

I had to go with the last option, being as I will in Australia. But if anyone gets pictures, that'd be pretty cool.

What she said (Well, not Australia, obviously!) :D
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

Thanks for the heads up.

My most memorable lunar eclipse was a a big soccer night. It was 2004? My wonderful little Jeremy was in the playoff game leading to the Championship game. Schenley (our team) beat the other team 8 to something. Jeremy made 3 of the goals and he was only a sophmore. Anyway, I went up to the annoucer's booth and knocked on the door and told the announcer there was an eclispe underway. So he announced it from the booth! And the whole crowd turns and looks at the sky in unison. And if I remember correctly, I think they incorrectly identified me as an "astronomer." Something like that. He . . he. . . Yeah that was a good night.

Eclipse tonight! If it's not freezing cold go out and take a peak. I think around 8 or 9 pm it will be going on by us (Pittsburgh, PA)?

If my camera takes some pictures, I'll share them. Just for a southern view of the eclipse.

It's too cold for a lunar eclipse. And I'm dead inside. When it comes to astronomy if I can't see it quickly while maintaining basic body heat I'm afraid I prefer the matte painting version. (Or the cool photos -- thanks for sharing.)

I did stay up late with my brother one summer night to see a lunar eclipse back in the day. It was ... slow.

Exception to this policy: meteor showers. Also Northern Lights. I will suffer some chill for those!
OMG, ANOTHER new chapter! NORTH STAR Chapter 28

Navy, actually. And would someone explain to me how blowing up a fuel tank full of toxic chemicals high in the atmosphere is any better than risking it coming down somewhere, populated or not? :? I could see blowing it up just to make sure no one else could use anything from it, but they're trying to say it was more environmentally friendly that way?

Wonderful eclipse picture, EK!

There were clouds drifting past the moon as it rose here in SoCal, but it cleared enough for us to get a good view of the eclipse, framed by lovely noctilucent clouds. :)

I saw the eclipse out of the piano window in our living room. It was too cold to go outside and slip around on the ice. Beautiful. It was red and seemed to make the moon look rounder. But the parrot was not interested when I tried to show it to him.
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.
