I Would Like to Introduce Anastasia and Nourhan

On top is Anastasia and on bottom is Nourhan 8)

I recently acquired Nourhan and Anastasia. Nourhan is a beautifully preserved 1944 Mosin-Nagant M91/30 with an 18" detachable bayonet. She is fully functional, and fires an unforgiving 7.62x54 mm sniper round still used today in the Russian SVD Dragunov sniper rifle and the Soviet PK machine gun, both weapons used by insurgents in Iraq and other third world countries. She also has matching serial numbers on the bolt, reciever, buttplate, magazine well and rear sight leaf.

Anastasia, is also remarkably well preserved. She's a 1944 model Mosin-Nagant M44, also firing the big 7.62x54 mm round. She has a permanently attached 12" swivelling bayonet. She, too, has matching serial numbers on the bolt, reciever, buttplate, magazine well and rear sight leaf.

Nourhan is my clear favorite as she seems to be better balanced. While heavier, the load is more evenly distributed over the full length of the rifle. While difficult to shoot from the shoulder because of the length, the M91/30 boasted superior accuracy to the M44 - explaining why 95% of tallied sharpshooter aces of the Eastern Front were Russian marksmen carrying this particular model rifle, including the famous Vasily Zaytsev, with over 400 kills.

You can see how long the rifle is with the 18" detachable bayonet:

I named Anastasia because it means "resurrection", and Nourhan after a girl I know, which also means "Light of the Sun". Edit: Nourhan tells me that 'Nourhan' is also translated as "divine light" 8)

Arright, ladies commence freaking out, guys commence nodding with crossed arms, sipping your beers and grunting appreciatively
:D

What a nice guns :D And what a nice poster of Enterprise in your room. :D
(at this point my European conscience was roused, guns in your room? Okay, be open minded. Maybe we can use some guns around here to kill many, many wild boars, that have no place to live, so they trolling into gardens and jumping in front of cars (result not good).
And maybe the gun owner does not live in a tiny, overpopulated country (16 million) with hardly any green and animals left, with no tradition at all with guns like I do....)
So have fun with your guns! :D

Don't feel bad, Panyasan. I was just thinking it might take a special kinda gal to walk into Elessar's room and not run screaming out of it. Especially when she finds out his guns have names other than "Betsy."

LOL, I didn't know that guns were females. :? Makes sense though since the female of the species is often considered "more deadly than the male". :tsktsk: But, uh, speaking of females, I have observed one saying while looking at such a weapon "The man who sleeps with that...sleeps alone". We do get jealous of other females, you know - that's only human.

I would be really screaming if a guy actually would give his gun a name like Betsy. That is not really original. Elessar at least did found some intriging names for his guns (I can not believe I just said that :D ).
Anyway, what is it with guns and names? Do you always give your gun a name? A total gun-illiturate here.

The naming thing escapes me, too. My dad collects guns. He doesn't have a locked gun safe, he has a locked gun ROOM. I don't think that he's named any of them, though... that he'll admit to. 8)

I just had this vision of Johnny leading this Nourhan girl into his room and going,

"Look! Look, Nourhan, I named it after you! AND it has a detachable bayonet. It's my clear favourite."

And then Nourhan backing slowly away and running terrified down the corridor.

Actually, she loves it. She's like "some girls get candies, some girls get chocolates, I get a rifle named after me :D" and she quoted it on her FB. Yeah, she loves it. 8)

Sweet pair you got there. You don't often find a matched set like that in good condition. Or a reasonably matched almost-set.

Why would a lady not be flattered or pleased that a man would honor her by naming one of his most cherished possessions after her? I am confused. But even more, why would she run screaming? My wife is a much better shot with a rifle than I am. I can out shoot her with a side arm, but she puts me to shame with a rifle. At thirty yards, she can drive a .22 casing into the trunk of a tree with a rifle (open sights - not a scope). I am lucky if I can SEE a .22 casing at thirty yards. The best I can do is maybe hit a pepsi bottle lid at that range. Not all women are afraid of guns.

I think your lady is a fine catch man. Well worth investing in.

Definitely. You're going to have to find a way to get her home.

It's a taste thing, really. It's like a guy showing his bedroom full of action-figures to a girl. The girl can run away thinking "how weird" or she can think "how cool". Usually it's the first option though.

Actually, she wouldn't run screaming, she'd be perfectly nice and make up a good excuse, because she sure as hell wouldn't want to rile up a guy with a roomful of guns.

Unless you grow up around guns, and I understand that many of you have, rooms full of them can be fairly alarming. One thinks of crazed snipers, neo-Nazi militiamen, drug dealers, or just someone has a very easy and permanent way to say "And now you've really pissed me off."
